The recent pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) highlighted a critical need to discover more effective antivirals. While therapeutics for SARS-CoV-2 exist, its nonstructural protein 13 (Nsp13) remains a clinically untapped target. Nsp13 is a helicase responsible for unwinding double-stranded RNA during viral replication and is essential for propagation.

In the bacterial pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis, DnaK-DnaJ interactions are essential for cell growth and represent potential targets for antibiotic or adjuvant development. While the N-terminal J-domains of J-proteins are known to form important contacts with DnaK, C-terminal domains have varied roles.

Educational experiences in laparoscopic training and development of associated competencies have evolved since FLS inception, making it important to review the definition of fundamental laparoscopic skills. The Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) assigned an FLS Technical Skills Working Group to characterize technical skills used in basic laparoscopic surgery in current practice contexts and their possible application to future FLS tests.

Methods: NP swabs collected monthly from children aged <3 years during both asymptomatic and acute respiratory illness (ARI) periods underwent culture-enriched microarray for pneumococcal detection and serotyping and lytA polymerase chain reaction for density assessment. We examined the serotypes commonly associated with co-colonization and the distribution of densities by co-colonization, age, current ARI, and other covariates.

Objective: To assess the accuracy of provider estimates of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) diagnostic probability in various clinical scenarios.
Design: We conducted a clinical vignette-based survey of intensive care unit (ICU) physicians to evaluate provider estimates of VAP diagnostic probability before and after isolated cardinal VAP clinical changes and VAP diagnostic test results. Responses were used to calculate imputed diagnostic likelihood ratios (LRs), which were compared to evidence-based LRs.
