Machine-learned potentials (MLPs) have transformed the field of molecular simulations by scaling "quantum-accurate" potentials to linear time complexity. While they provide more accurate reproduction of physical properties as compared to empirical force fields, it is still computationally costly to generate their training data sets from ab initio calculations. Despite the emergence of foundational or general MLPs for organic molecules and dense materials, it is unexplored if one general MLP can be effectively developed for a wide variety of nanoporous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with different chemical moieties and geometric properties.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of self-directed virtual reality (VR) ultrasound simulators versus traditional physician-led (PL) training for cardiac point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) among medical students with no prior ultrasound experience.
  • Conducted in a Singapore university hospital, 43 medical students completed e-learning on ultrasonography before being randomly assigned to either VR or PL training for learning four cardiac views, followed by assessments through MCQ tests and practical skills evaluations.
  • Results showed the VR group started with higher baseline scores, but the PL group demonstrated more significant immediate improvements in knowledge and practical skills; however, at one month later, VR training was found to be noninferior to PL with potential trends indicating better knowledge retention.*

Article Synopsis
  • - Human studies suggest that activin C (Act-C) and its related components play a significant role in regulating fat distribution and metabolic health, indicating an interaction between liver and fat tissues.
  • - Research showed that higher levels of circulating INHBC, a precursor to Act-C, are linked to lower body fat and increased risks for heart disease and fatty liver, while obesity and inflammation can raise INHBC levels.
  • - The mechanisms involve Act-C's activation of a specific pathway in fat cells, which suppresses fat breakdown and may position INHBC as a potential target for treating conditions like atherogenic dyslipidemia and coronary artery disease.

The neurokinin-1 receptors (NK1Rs) in the forebrain medial septum (MS) region are localized exclusively on cholinergic neurons that partly project to the hippocampus and the cingulate cortex (Cg), regions implicated in nociception. In the present study, we explored the hypothesis that neurotransmission at septal NK1R and hippocampal cholinergic mechanisms mediate experimental neuropathic pain in the rodent chronic constriction injury model (CCI). Our investigations showed that intraseptal microinjection of substance P (SP) in rat evoked a peripheral hypersensitivity (PH)-like response in uninjured animals that was attenuated by systemic atropine sulphate, a muscarinic-cholinergic receptor antagonist.
