Co-Creating Recommendations to Redesign and Promote Strength and Balance Service Provision.

Awareness of physical activity guidelines are low, particularly the "forgotten guidelines" of strength and balance. Increasing awareness of guidelines, but also of appropriate local services that can be utilised, is an important step towards active ageing. Co-creation can inform tailored service provision to potentially increase uptake and adherence.

Interobserver agreement in magnetic resonance brain and neck imaging.

Aim: To investigate the interobserver reliability of brain and neck magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in older community subjects previously recruited to a case-control study of dizziness.

Methods: Subjects aged over 65 years were identified through a local survey and advertising. Several investigations were performed, including MRI of the head and neck using a Siemens 1.

Magnetic resonance brain imaging in people with dizziness: a comparison with non-dizzy people.

Background: Dizziness is a common symptom affecting about 30% of people over the age of 65.

Objective: To investigate the hypothesis that structural abnormalities of the brain and cervical cord are more common in dizzy than in non-dizzy subjects.

Methods: A case-control study of subjects over the age of 65 with and without dizziness: 125 dizzy subjects and 86 non-dizzy subjects were recruited from the community through articles in the local press.

Is electronystagmography of diagnostic value in the elderly?

We aimed to determine the diagnostic value of electronystagmography (ENG) in a community-based sample of dizzy subjects over 65 years old. A total of 96 asymptomatic controls and 149 dizzy subjects underwent ENG. Clinical diagnoses were made on standardized criteria.

Re-evaluation of normative electronystagmography data in healthy ageing.

Previous work by our group questions the validity of existing electronystagmography (ENG) reference ranges in the elderly. We aim to establish valid reference ranges for ENG in people over 65 on the Nicolet Nystar Plus system. Ninety-six healthy asymptomatic subjects over 65 underwent ENG, including spontaneous and positional nystagmus, saccades, smooth pursuit, optokinetic nystagmus and bithermal calorics; 95% reference ranges with confidence intervals were calculated.
