Article Synopsis
  • The study examined 35 patients with fundic atrophic gastritis and achlorhydria, classifying them into two groups based on the presence of hyperplasia of enterochromaffin-like cells.
  • It found that patients with the hyperplastic group had significantly higher levels of circulating gastrin and increased antral G-cell hyperplasia compared to those without hyperplasia.
  • Additionally, only the hyperplastic group showed increased histamine content and histidine decarboxylase activity in fundic biopsies, linking argyrophil-cell hyperplasia to elevated gastrin levels rather than the severity of gastritis.
