Background: Dengue virus (DENV) nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) has multiple functions within infected cells, on the cell surface, and in secreted form, and is highly immunogenic. Immunity from previous DENV infections is known to exert both positive and negative effects on subsequent DENV infections, but the contribution of NS1-specific antibodies to these effects is incompletely understood.

Methods: We investigated the functions of NS1-specific antibodies and their significance in DENV infection.

Background Fluctuating asymmetry (FA) is widely defined as the deviation from perfect bilateral symmetry and is considered an epigenetic measure of environmental stress. Rinaldi and Fontani hypothesized that the FA morpho-functional changes originate from an adaptive motor behavior determined by functional alterations in the cerebellum and neural circuits, not caused by a lesion, but induced by environmental stress. They called this phenomenon functional dysmetria (FD).

Rabbit peritoneum was studied by SEM to obtain information and statistically meaningful morphometric data of different sites of visceral and parietal peritoneum and to verify the existence of "stomata." Samples were fixed by intraperitoneal infusion of glutaraldehyde, and were photographed by SEM under standard conditions. Morphometric data were obtained by Kontron MOP Videoplan.

On the basis of the concepts presented in Note I, the effects of excluding the duodenum from the digestive circuit are examined. In practice, the effects are reflected in disturbances to intestinal canalization with consequent post-prandial syndromes, and to the digestion and absorption of foods (deficiency syndromes). Over and above histological, biological and biochemical findings, the severe pathology affecting the entire digestive function brought on by the elimination of the manifold, complex activities of the "duodenal laboratory" were confirmed clinically.
