We manipulated baseline peripheral arterial stiffness via changes in local arterial pressure with different limb positions to test the hypothesis that the magnitude of decrease in arterial stiffness post exercise/compression would be less when baseline stiffness is higher with the arm below the heart. Brachial-radial pulse wave velocity (PWV) was measured with tonometers in 19 healthy volunteers before and after 5 min of rhythmic handgrip exercise or passive forearm compressions with the arm positioned below or above the heart. Brachial-radial PWV was reduced 5 min after handgrip exercise below (10.

Mass spectrometry (MS) has become an indispensable tool for the detailed chemical analysis of materials used in energy production, spanning both traditional fossil fuels and modern renewable alternatives. This review explores advanced ionization sources and ultrahigh-resolution MS technologies in analyzing energy materials such as petroleum, biomass, biofuels, and bio-oil. Highlighted ionization techniques include electrospray ionization, atmospheric pressure chemical ionization, atmospheric pressure photoionization, laser desorption/ionization, and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization, all crucial for qualitative and quantitative assessments, as well as ultrahigh-resolution Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance and Orbitrap mass analyzers.

Grapes are fruits widely grown and known throughout the world, and they have significant economic and nutritional value. However, grapes are highly susceptible to attack by pests and insects, which reduces production and product quality. Pesticides are the most utilized solution for meeting global consumption demands and avoiding losses, and they can be used at any production stage.

Using data from a birth cohort study, we evaluated the long-term association between breastfeeding and metabolic cardiovascular risk factors at 30 years old. In 1982, the 5,914 live births in maternity hospitals in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, were examined and the mothers were interviewed. Since then, these participants have been prospectively followed.
