Background: Hypercoagulation and thrombin generation are major risk factors for venous thrombosis. Sustained thrombin signaling through PAR4 promotes platelet activation, phosphatidylserine exposure, and subsequent thrombin generation. A single-nucleotide polymorphism in PAR4 (rs2227376) changes proline to leucine extracellular loop 3 (P310L), which decreases PAR4 reactivity and is associated with a lower risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in a GWAS meta-analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the prevalence of depression among 410 patients with post-COVID-19 conditions at a hospital in Southern Vietnam, revealing that 23.7% of patients experienced depression, mostly at mild levels.
  • - Factors linked to increased depression rates include being 50 years or older, education level, employment status, marital status, chronic diseases, and various post-COVID symptoms such as fatigue and shortness of breath.
  • - The findings highlight a significant mental health crisis post-COVID-19, emphasizing the need for ongoing mental health support and improved quality of life for affected individuals.

The greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories in our context result from the production of electricity from fuel oil at the Mbalmayo thermal power plant between 2016 and 2020. Our study area is located in the Central Cameroon region. The empirical method of the second level of industrialisation was applied to estimate GHG emissions and the application of the genetic algorithm-Gaussian (GA-Gaussian) coupling method was used to optimise the estimation of GHG emissions.

Background: Early platelet transfusion is associated with reduced mortality in traumatic hemorrhage. However, platelet usage is severely limited because of the challenges of donor availability, platelet portability, and storage. Here, we report on a bioinspired synthetic platelet (SP) nanoconstruct that utilizes liposome surface-decoration with peptides that mimic injury site-specific platelet adhesion to von Willebrand Factor and collagen, and fibrinogen-mediated platelet aggregation.
