End stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients until recently have been effectively excluded from receiving hospice benefits unless they withdraw from renal replacement therapy. Policy change has allowed select populations to receive concurrent hospice and hemodialysis. We conducted a retrospective analysis of all deaths occurring from 2019 to 2022 among outpatient hemodialysis patients at our VA medical center.

The diagnostic sub-categorization of cauda equina syndrome (CES) is used to aid communication between doctors and other healthcare professionals. It is also used to determine the need for, and urgency of, MRI and surgery in these patients. A recent paper by Hoeritzauer et al (2023) in this journal examined the interobserver reliability of the widely accepted subcategories in 100 patients with cauda equina syndrome.

It is currently uncertain whether an intracranial first approach or an extracranial first approach should be employed.
