Power stabilization of a terahertz-frequency quantum-cascade laser using a photonic-integrated modulator.

We demonstrate a technique to stabilize the emission from a 3.4-THz quantum-cascade laser against power drifts, using a recently developed photonic integrated circuit (PIC) structure formed by coupling a racetrack resonator with a ridge waveguide. This structure enables a dynamic power-control range of ±15% and locking over >600 s using a proportional-integral control loop.

Using Care Navigation to Improve Patient-Reported Outcomes Among Older Adult Patients: Preliminary Results From a Pilot Study.

Navigating health and social care in the United States can be difficult for people of all ages, but older adults often have multiple health problems, chronic illnesses, and disabilities that can increase the complexities of their care. To assist older adult patients and/or their caregivers with coordinating care, and providing information, advocacy, and resources, Henry Ford Health (HFH) implemented a Senior Care Navigation Program (SCNP). Older HFH patients or their caregivers were referred to the SCNP either by a provider or another member of their care team.

Pain during cardiac implantable electronic device implantation.

In order to evaluate the extent and causes of pain during cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) implantation in our hospital, a prospective audit over a 23-month period using a patient selfreporting questionnaire was undertaken. In total, 599 procedures were reported, 52.9% for pacemaker implantation and 23.

Getting it right first time (GIRFT): A closed loop study of hip arthroplasty documentation in a trauma and orthopaedic department.

Introduction: The objectives of this study conducted in the University Hospital of North Tees, UK were to: (i) Identify if the current hip arthroplasty documentation met good compliance with the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) hip arthroplasty guidance (ii) Improve current documentation with a transition from hand-written notes to an online typed personalised operative hip arthroplasty template (iii) Improve the quality of documentation and adherence to GIRFT guidance in hip arthroplasty.

Methods: We led a team of 7 doctors to review University Hospital of North Tees compliance against 24 criteria laid out by GIRFT. After examining 20 operative records retrospectively at random from a spread of orthopaedic consultants in the department, it was shown that there was poor compliance against GIRFT guidelines.

Large Coronary Arteries Mean No Chance of a Heart Attack, Right? An Acute Myocardial Infarction in the Setting of Holding Anticoagulation for a Routine Colonoscopy.

Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is an uncommon pathology, which is sometimes incidentally found on left heart catheterization (LHC). CAE is occasionally treated with systemic anticoagulation to prevent thrombosis or progression of the clot in the coronary arteries. We present a 63-year-old male with known CAE on warfarin who presented to the hospital with myocardial infarction after a routine colonoscopy for which anticoagulation was held.
