  • The study aimed to gather data on primary Budd-Chiari Syndrome (BCS) in France using two methods: a survey of specialized liver units and analysis of hospital discharge databases.
  • From the liver unit survey, 178 primary BCS cases were identified, showing a prevalence of 4.04 cases per million, with common risk factors being myeloproliferative neoplasms, oral contraceptives, and factor V Leiden.
  • The findings revealed that primary BCS cases were three times less common than nonmalignant hepatic vein obstructions recorded in hospitals, highlighting significant differences in associated medical conditions.
