Primary Care Use and 90-Day Mortality Among Older Adults Undergoing Cancer Surgery.

Importance: Multimorbidity and postoperative clinical decompensation are common among older surgical patients with cancer, highlighting the importance of primary care to optimize survival. Little is known about the association between primary care use and survivorship among older adults (aged ≥65 years) undergoing cancer surgery.

Objective: To examine primary care use among older surgical patients with cancer and its association with mortality.

Serologic, Virologic and Pathologic Features of Cats with Naturally Occurring Feline Infectious Peritonitis Enrolled in Antiviral Clinical Trials.

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a multisystemic, generally lethal immuno-inflammatory disease of domestic cats caused by an infection with a genetic variant of feline coronavirus, referred to as the FIP virus (FIPV). We leveraged data from four different antiviral clinical trials performed at the University of California, Davis. Collectively, a total of 60 client-owned domestic cats, each with a confirmed diagnosis of naturally occurring FIP, were treated with a variety of antiviral compounds.

Utilization of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in high-risk, node-negative early breast cancer.

Background: Controversy exists regarding the optimal sequence of chemotherapy among women with operable node-negative breast cancers with high-risk tumor biology. We evaluated national patterns of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) use among women with early-stage HER2+, triple-negative (TNBC), and high-risk hormone receptor-positive (HR+) invasive breast cancers.

Methods: Women ≥18 years with cT1-2/cN0 HER2+, TNBC, or high recurrence risk score (≥31) HR+ invasive breast cancers who received chemotherapy were identified in the National Cancer Database (2010-2016).

Integration of cancer registry and electronic health record data to construct a childhood cancer survivorship cohort, facilitate risk stratification for late effects, and assess appropriate follow-up care.

Background: This retrospective study harnessed an institutional cancer registry to construct a childhood cancer survivorship cohort, integrate electronic health record (EHR) and geospatial data to stratify survivors based on late-effect risk, analyze follow-up care patterns, and determine factors associated with suboptimal follow-up care.

Procedure: The survivorship cohort included patients ≤18 years of age reported to the institutional cancer registry between January 1, 1994 and November 30, 2012. International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, third revision (ICD-O-3) coding and treatment exposures facilitated risk stratification of survivors.

Conducting a formative evaluation of an intervention promoting mammography screening in an American Indian community: The Native Women's Health Project.

Background: Breast cancer is an important public health issue among American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) women. However, there are very few published studies describing the evaluation of breast health promotion programs among AI/AN women.

Purpose: To describe the formative evaluation of a multi-component intervention to promote mammography screening in an AI community in rural Oklahoma.
