Background: Breaking bad news is one of the most difficult tasks for practicing doctors, especially for those working in health care specialties where life-threatening diseases are diagnosed and managed routinely. Our aim was to elicit the knowledge and practices of doctors and identify barriers faced by them in disclosure of bad news across the provinces of Pakistan.
Methods: Cross-sectional, multi-centered study supported by an external grant in 15 Government and Private Hospitals across Pakistan.
Heart failure is a serious and challenging medical condition characterized by the inability of the heart to pump blood effectively, leading to reduced blood flow to organs and tissues. Several underlying causes may be linked to this, including coronary artery disease, hypertension, or previous heart attacks. Therefore, it is a chronic condition that requires ongoing management and medical attention.

- * 47 patients (22 with the conventional method and 25 with the new method) were evaluated for outcomes like freedom from mitral regurgitation and quality of life using NYHA classification during a two-year follow-up.
- * Results showed no hospital deaths and no significant differences in initial outcomes, but the "track technique" was associated with better coaptation lengths and fewer cases of recurrent mitral regurgitation after two years.
Objective: To analyze the data of the psychological assessment, focusing attention on the quality of life and the psychological status of patients who are listed for heart transplant.
Methods: All heart failure patients listed for heart transplant at the Cardiac Surgery Unit of Bari University, Italy, were evaluated from September to November 2023, by administering the Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R) and the Short Form Health Survey 36 (SF-36).
Results: Overall, 27 patients were studied.
A 59-year-old woman, with dilated ischemic cardiomyopathy, was urgently admitted to our Intensive Care Unit for cardiogenic shock. ECMO VA was implanted and placed on the national emergency waitlist for transplantation. A potential donation was identified ten days later.
