Real time-PCR a diagnostic tool for reporting copy number variation and relative gene-expression changes in pediatric B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia-a pilot study.

Real time-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is used routinely in clinical practice as a cost-effective method for molecular diagnostics. Research in pediatric B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ped B-ALL) suggests that apart from cytogenetics and clinical features, there is a need to include Copy number variation (CNV) in select genes at diagnosis, for upfront stratification of patients. Using ped B-ALL as a model, we have developed a RT-PCR-based iterative probability scoring method for reporting CNVs, and relative gene-expression changes.

The Creeping Creatinine in a Growing Child With a Kidney Transplant: Distinguishing Progressive Graft Dysfunction From Normal Growth in Pediatric Kidney Transplant Recipients.

Background: Pediatric kidney transplant recipients experience creeping creatinine, which is a slow increase in serum creatinine over time. Distinguishing between normal growth-related changes and possible allograft dysfunction becomes challenging when interpreting the increase in serum creatinine. We hypothesized that changes in BSA-indexed measured glomerular filtration rate (mGFR) or creatinine-estimated GFR (eGFR) might not be a true reflection of the renal function post-transplant and that for longitudinal follow-up a stable absolute mGFR is better.

Improving transition of care from pediatric to adult endocrinology for adolescents with diabetes.

Introduction: Adolescence is a challenging time in a child's life and can be even more stressful for those with a chronic medical condition such as diabetes mellitus. Adolescents and young adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes experience worsening glycemic levels as they enter adulthood. Data suggest that a formalized health care transition process and beginning transition preparation in early adolescence leads to better transition outcomes.

Screening for breast cancer: a systematic review update to inform the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care guideline.

Objective: This systematic review update synthesized recent evidence on the benefits and harms of breast cancer screening in women aged ≥ 40 years and aims to inform the Canadian Task Force on Preventive Health Care's (CTFPHC) guideline update.

Methods: We searched Ovid MEDLINE® ALL, Embase Classic + Embase and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials to update our searches to July 8, 2023. Search results for observational studies were limited to publication dates from 2014 to capture more relevant studies.

EXPRESS: Temporal Trends of Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Nationwide Study from 2010-2020.

This study examined Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) trends over the last 10 years, including their nationwide patterns, and the outcomes of the utilization of TPN. Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database from 2010 to 2020, was used to identify IBD hospitalization and discharges, and investigate outcomes, including in-hospital mortality and hospital resource utilization. The hospitalizations for IBD combining both Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) initially noted a rising trend until 2016 followed by a decreasing trend with statistical significance (P < 0.
