The chromatographic retention of carbohydrates on chelating stationary phase loaded with different metal ions was studied under conditions of hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC). The chelating stationary phases represented silica microparticles with immobilized 2-hydroxyethyliminodiacetic acid (HEIDA) groups in loose form and saturated with Ca, Pb, and Laform. The role of loaded metal ion, the acetonitrile and methanol content in the mobile phase, buffer pH and column temperature on the retention of l-(+)-arabinose, d-(+)-maltose, l-(+)-rhamnose, d-(+)-lactose, d-(+)-xylose, glucose, fructose, sucrose, mannose, maltotriose and d-(+) raffinose was studied.
