Biofilm application for anaerobic digestion: a systematic review and an industrial scale case.

Biofilm is a syntrophic community of microorganisms enveloped by extracellular polymeric substances and displays remarkable adaptability to dynamic environments. Implementing biofilm in anaerobic digestion has been widely investigated and applied as it promotes microbial retention time and enhances the efficiency. Previous studies on anaerobic biofilm primarily focused on application in wastewater treatment, while its role has been significantly extended to accelerate the degradation of lignocellulosic biomass, improve gas-liquid mass transfer for biogas upgrading, or enhance resistance to inhibitors or toxic pollutants.

Triage processes in primary, secondary, and tertiary health care facilities in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal: a mixed-methods study.

Background: In healthcare facilities, an efficient triage system is critical to optimize patient care. The main objective of this study was to explore the triage processes and practices in three different tiers of healthcare facilities in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.

Methods: A mixed-methods approach in this study comprised observations and interviews in ten healthcare settings across primary care centers (PHC; n = 6), secondary care centers (SHC; n = 3), and tertiary care hospital (n = 1).

Association between volume and cost in low-resection volume regions: a population-level study on pancreatoduodenectomy for pancreatic cancer patients.

Background: Pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) is a highly complex, invasive, and costly surgical procedure. Limited evidence on the PD volume-cost relationship in countries with a low population density exists. This study aimed to investigate this issue in Australia.

Hospital readmission after surviving sepsis: A systematic review of readmission reasons and meta-analysis of readmission rates.

Purpose: To review the evidence regarding hospital readmission diagnoses and analyse related readmission rates following a sepsis admission.

Methods: Five databases, grey literature, and selected article reference lists were searched in May and June 2024. Included studies investigated sepsis survivor readmissions and reported readmission diagnoses and rates.

SETD1B mutations confer apoptosis resistance and BCL2 independence in B cell lymphoma.

The translocation t(14;18) activates BCL2 and is considered the initiating genetic lesion in most follicular lymphomas (FL). Surprisingly, FL patients fail to respond to the BCL2 inhibitor, Venetoclax. We show that mutations and deletions affecting the histone lysine methyltransferase SETD1B (KMT2G) occur in 7% of FLs and 16% of diffuse large B cell lymphomas (DLBCL).
