Kinetic roughening of the (001) singular surface during steady crystal growth is studied on the basis of a lattice model using the Monte Carlo method. At a sufficiently low temperature, there are known to be two kinetic roughening points as the driving force for crystal growth increases. At a low driving force , there is the Karder-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) roughening transition point.

Cerebral vasospasm associated with epidermoid cyst can be caused by tumor content spillage, such as spontaneous rupture and postsurgical resection. Symptomatic cerebral vasospasm following the resection of an intracranial epidermoid cyst is a rare but serious complication that lacks a consensus on treatment. Case presentation: A 10-year-old girl underwent an uneventful complete resection of a left cerebellopontine angle epidermoid cyst.

The main cause of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is plaque rupture and thrombus formation. However, it has not been fairly successful to identify vulnerable plaque to rupture using conventional parameters of intravascular imaging modalities. Fractal analysis is one of the mathematical models to examine geometrical features of picture image using a specific parameter called as fractal dimension (FD) which suggests geometric complexity of the image.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent advancements in treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have improved patient survival, but these therapies are expensive, creating a financial burden on patients and society.
  • A study analyzed first-line systemic treatments for advanced HCC in Japan, focusing on the number of patients receiving different treatments and their associated monthly costs from July 2021 to June 2022.
  • The study found that 82.2% of patients received high-cost regimens, with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab being the most common and expensive treatment at 1,176,284 JPY per month.

Article Synopsis
  • * After initial treatment with proton beam therapy, the tumor remained stable for 4 years before enlarging and recurring, leading to further treatment with hepatic arterial chemoembolization.
  • * Despite these interventions, the patient's condition worsened, resulting in jaundice and tumor growth, ultimately leading to his death; autopsy revealed the tumor was actually hepatic leiomyosarcoma with specific genetic mutations indicating a transition from sarcomatoid hepatocarcinoma.
