Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease characterized by the destruction of insulin-producing pancreatic β-cells, leading to hyperglycemia and various complications. Despite insulin replacement therapy, there is a need for therapies targeting the underlying autoimmune response. This review aims to explore the mechanistic insights into T1D pathogenesis and the impact of delivery systems on immunotherapy.

Background: Anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF) involves placement of a graft/implant to ensure fusion and stabilization along with neural decompression. We share our experience with a subset of ACCF patients in whom graft/implant could not be placed post decompression for varying reasons but had a favorable long-term outcome. The necessity for routine fusion after corpectomy is critically analyzed, and the feasibility of an alternative surgical option without graft/implant is discussed.

Background: Laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation are related to sympathetic stimulation and lead to hypertension and tachycardia. These changes in hemodynamics may increase the risk of myocardial ischemia. As a result, effective blunting of these unpleasant responses is required.

The irradiation of topological insulator surface with elliptically polarized light modifies the topological properties in a phase-dependent manner impacting the Floquet Chern number which is a crucial topological invariant associated with such driven systems. Employing Floquet theory in presence of hexagonal warping term in the Dirac fermion Hamiltonian under off-resonant conditions, we derive an effective Hamiltonian that highlights distinct features in the Floquet-Dirac surface states. Specifically, we identify a helicity and ellipticity-dependent mass term in the quasi-static Hamiltonian, breaking time reversal symmetry.

Background: Pediatric firearm injuries disproportionately affect groups experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage. Firearm injuries increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the impact on communities by degree of socioeconomic disadvantage is unknown. We examined the association between socioeconomic vulnerability and change in pediatric firearm injuries before versus during the pandemic.
