Background: Awake prone positioning (APP) may be beneficial in patients with respiratory failure who are not receiving mechanical ventilation. Randomized controlled trials of APP have been performed during peak COVID-19 periods in unvaccinated populations, with limited data on compliance or patient acceptability. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and acceptability of APP in a lower-middle income country in an open-label randomized controlled trial using a dedicated APP implementation team and wearable continuous-monitoring devices.

Background: Pain associated with osteoarthritis (OA) is frequently disabling; treatments are often ineffective or intolerable. Fasinumab selectively inhibits nerve-growth factor and has shown efficacy for the management of OA pain.

Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, phase III safety study, patients with moderate-to-severe OA pain and history of inadequate pain relief received placebo or fasinumab (at 1, 3, 6, and 9 mg every 4 weeks [Q4W] and 1 and 6 mg every 8 weeks [Q8W] for 52 weeks).

Background: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has identified a range of symptomatic manifestations to aid in the clinical diagnosis of post-COVID conditions, herein referred to as post-acute COVID-19 symptoms. We conducted an international network cohort study to estimate the burden of these symptoms in North American, European, and Asian populations.

Methods: A federated analysis was conducted including 10 databases from the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Norway, Estonia, Spain, France, South Korea, and the United States, between September 1st 2020 and latest data availability (which varied from December 31st 2021 to February 28th 2023), covering primary and secondary care, nationwide registries, and claims data, all mapped to the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model (OMOP CDM).

Background: Romdoul () is a flowering plant of the Annonaceae family and has been used customarily in folk medicine. The bioactivities of this plant, especially the anti-cancer effect, however, remain surprisingly few.

Objective: this study aimed to elucidate the anti-leukemic effect of romdoul fruit extracts and their underlining mechanisms.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the genetic diversity of potential malaria vaccine targets, PfMSP1 and PfMSP2, in P. falciparum from Vietnam, highlighting the challenges posed by global genetic variation in vaccine development.
  • - Researchers found that P. falciparum in Vietnam showed higher genetic homogeneity in pfmsp1 and pfmsp2 compared to other countries, with unique allele diversity patterns differing significantly from its Greater Mekong Subregion neighbors.
  • - Results suggest that geographic isolation and specific evolutionary pressures may have led to the genetic characteristics seen in Vietnam's P. falciparum population, indicating potential factors like bottleneck effects influencing its genetic makeup.
