A new flavonolignan, sonyamandin , along with other known compounds was isolated from the aerial parts and seeds extracts of (milk thistle) collected from Jordan. The known ones are ursolic acid , oleanolic acid , maslinic acid oleic acid , β-sitosterol , β-, sitosteryl glucoside apigenin , kaempferol-3-O-rhamnoside , apigenin-7-O-β-D-glycoside , isosylibin A , isosylibin B and silybin B . The absolute stereochemistry of was confirmed by 2D NMR and CD analysis.

Phytochemical investigation of the aerial parts and latex of from Jordan, utilizing column chromatography accompanied with NMR (1 & 2D), IR, UV, and HR-ESI-Mass spectroscopy have led to the isolation and characterization of two new compounds, pergularol and 3-O-acetyl-28-hydroxytaraxasterol for the first time along with other ten known compounds including linoleic acid , 3'-didehydroafroside , apigenin , β-sitosteryl glucoside , luteolin , apigenin 7-(6''-crotonoyl)glucoside , 3'-O-β-glucopyranosylcalotropin , apigenin-7-O-β-D-glycoside , pergularine A , taraxasterol . Compound is isolated for the first time from genus.

Here, we report on a phyto-mediated bimetallic (NiFeO) preparation using a extract, which was characterized by XRD, FT-IR, TGA, electron microscopy, magnetic spectroscopy, and Mössbauer spectroscopy measurements. The prepared nano-catalysts were tested for oxidation of lignin monomer molecules-vanillyl alcohol and cinnamyl alcohol. In comparison with previously reported methods, the nano NiFeO catalysts showed high photocatalytic activity and selectivity, under visible light irradiation with a nitroxy radical initiator (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyloxy or 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl; TEMPO) at room temperature and aerobic conditions.

Column chromatography (CC) analysis of methanol and butanol extracts of the aerial parts of well as the methanol extract of its latex, led to the isolation of cardenolides, of which the structures were elucidated by NMR and HRESIMS spectroscopy. They also revealed several triterpenes and flavonoid glycoside. Based on the antiproliferative activity reported for cardenolides, the activity of calotropin and calotoxin was tested against two common cancer cell lines, human triple-negative breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231) and human lung adenocarcinoma cell line (A549).
