Article Synopsis
  • Mental health issues are common among US veterans, and the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is working to improve care by using measurement-based care (MBC) and mobile apps like the Mental Health Checkup (MHC) to support veterans' mental wellness.
  • The study evaluated veteran experiences with the MHC app through surveys and interviews, finding positive impacts on engagement in health care, treatment decision-making, and goal-setting for veterans who used the app for three months or more.
  • Results indicated that using the MHC app improved communication about health needs, with a significant increase in positive responses from users who had utilized the app longer, thus demonstrating the app's potential benefits in enhancing mental health care for veterans.
