Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the visual outcomes of symmetrical vs. asymmetrical and bilateral vs. unilateral implantation of multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) in 44 patients with lens opacities.
  • Results indicated that patients receiving symmetrical bilateral implants had significantly better near and intermediate visual acuity compared to those with unilateral implants, while distance vision remained high in both groups.
  • Additionally, while some lens rotation was observed postoperatively, none of the patients reported issues typically associated with IOL misalignment.

Article Synopsis
  • A clinical case was presented involving the surgical implantation of iris-fixated lenses in a patient with both native lenses dislocated into the vitreous body.
  • Despite the presence of the dislocated lenses, the patient did not experience increased eye pressure (ocular hypertension) after the surgery during a long-term follow-up.
  • Post-surgery, the patient's vision improved significantly and there was no need to remove the dislocated native lenses.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the effectiveness of the iris-claw "Artizan" intraocular lens (IOL) for patients with lens dislocation and glaucoma.
  • The IOL was implanted in 16 eyes through a 5 mm corneal incision, securing it to the iris stroma, which made the procedure less traumatic.
  • Results showed that this IOL model leads to good visual outcomes and does not worsen intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients.

Rheologic properties of blood cells and a state of oxidative-reductive processes and blood systems have been studied in 75 patients in acute period of ischemic stroke. The signs of oxidative stress development and simultaneous augmentation of blood cells aggregation were found. Shifts of redox-equilibrium in thiol-disulfide and ascorbate oxidative-reductive blood systems and cells aggregation dependence on their state were detected.
