Condition was studied of the system lipid peroxidation-antioxidants in 243 patients with carcinoma of the stomach and large intestine and 39 patients with non-malignant diseases. No relationship was found between the studied parameters and age, sex of the oncological patients, location and histological structure of the tumour. During different stages, different dysbalance of components of the system was being formed but there was no strong correlation between content and a particular stage.

The oncological patients showed decrease in activity of the mediator link of the sympathoadrenal system (SAS) as well as its reserves but there was no association with sex, age, location or histological structure. Three types of SAS functioning were identified, such as compensation, overstrain and emaciation.

Blood serum levels of CA 125 were measured by enzyme immunoassay in 60 patients with ovarian carcinoma during the diagnosis and treatment of the condition. The level of this antigen was found correlating with the disease stage and surpassing the normal value in 18% of cases with Stage II, in 62.2% of those with Stage III, and in 91% of those with Stage IV condition.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBlood levels of CEA, CA 19-9 and AFP were assayed by immunoenzyme technique in 60 cases of gastric cancer, 15 patients with pancreatic cancer and 30 patients with colorectal cancer. CEA and CA 19-9 levels were found to depend upon stage and degree of tumor differentiation. Changes in the antigen levels in the course of treatment reflected the degree of its radicality.
