Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) frequently leads to neurological complications after recovery from acute infection, with higher prevalence in women. However, mechanisms by which SARS-CoV-2 disrupts brain function remain unclear and treatment strategies are lacking. We previously demonstrated neuroinflammation in the olfactory bulb of intranasally infected hamsters, followed by alpha-synuclein and tau accumulation in cortex, thus mirroring pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease.

Somatostatin receptor scintigraphy is a key diagnostic tool in the initial staging and therapeutic evaluation of neuroendocrine tumors. Its specificity can be compromised by the presence of false positives. We illustrate here the case of a vertebral hemangioma detected on Tc-Tektrotyd scintigraphy as an incidental finding in a 34-year-old man referred for the staging of a well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor of the ampulla of Vater (Fig.

While importin-α is well studied in mammals, the knowledge in avian species is still limited. In this study, we compared the mRNA expression patterns of five importin-α isoforms in the respiratory tract, liver, and spleen of chickens, turkeys, and pekin ducks in two different age-groups. In addition, we determined the distribution of importin-α in selected tissue of conchae, trachea, and lung of post-hatch chickens at all cellular levels by immunohistochemical staining.

A 40-year-old male patient with pulmonary tuberculosis was subjected to a perfusion lung scan to rule out pulmonary embolism. Administration of technetium-99m macroaggregated albumin through preexisting venous access resulted in multiple round hot spots in both pulmonary fields. This finding was interpreted as an artifact caused by injection through preexisting venous access.
