The lives of houseless individuals are characterized by powerlessness, meaninglessness, hopelessness, and despair, yet they have a desire to escape homelessness. While the economic aspect is essential for escaping homelessness, psychological resources are crucial, as they form the basis of the strength needed to achieve independence. The study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a logotherapy-based empowerment program developed to strengthen the capabilities of persons living houseless and ultimately develop competencies that serve as a foundation for self-reliance.

Design: A systematic review and meta-analyses were performed for critical appraisal and synthesis of the included studies.

Data Sources: A systematic search of studies published before 10 September 2018 was performed using PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and CINAHL.

Effects of a Brief Empowerment Program for Families of Persons with Mental Illness in South Korea: A Pilot Study.

Families of persons with mental illness (PMIs) are considered important resources for PMIs rather than as contributors to their mental illness. However, these families experience not only the burden of caregiving but also social stigma and discrimination in various aspects of their lives, and their psychosocial needs tend to be overlooked. This was a pilot study to explore the effects of a brief empowerment program on the empowerment and quality of life of families of PMIs in South Korea.

Experiences of Family Stigma among Mothers of Adult Children with Mental Illness in South Korea.

The work was qualitative in nature; we used the phenomenological method of Colaizzi.

The effects of cognitive-behavioral therapy on depression, anger, and self-control for Korean soldiers.

This quasi-experimental study examined the effects of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to control depression, anger, and self-control in soldiers from South Korea. Using a pretest-posttest design, the sample was composed of an experimental group (n = 16) and a control group (n = 12). The experimental group participated in four sessions of CBT.

Randomized controlled trial of a cognitive-behavioral therapy for at-risk Korean male adolescents.

This study examined the effects of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) aimed at enhancing the resilience of high-risk adolescents with alcohol-dependent parents in Suwon, South Korea. The study used a randomized control group pretest and posttest design. The experimental group participated in 10 sessions of CBT, and the scores on resilience increased significantly after the intervention, whereas the scores of self-concept and depression did not change.

Background: Depression is a significant mental health problem in adolescents. The Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale - Second Edition has been shown to be a useful tool to assess depression in adolescents, with extensive research on this measure having been conducted in western cultures.

Stages of change: Korean women's attitudes and barriers toward mammography screening.

The positive and negative aspects of breast cancer screening were measured to gain insight into the barriers that prevent Korean women from participating in mammography screening. Breast cancer screening behaviors, attitudes, and barriers were identified from a convenience sample of 328 Korean women recruited in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Jeju, South Korea. Pros, cons, and decisional balance constructs of the transtheoretical model of behavior change were used to identify stages of change in attitude related to mammography screening.

[The effects of cognitive behavioral anger management program on self-consciousness and anger in Korean military man].

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate a cognitive behavioral anger management intervention in order to increase self-consciousness and decrease anger among Korean military men.

Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used for this study. Ninety two soldiers were screened for unhealthy anger expression using a questionnaire.

This study examined the effects of cognitive-behavioral group therapy (CBT) on the self-esteem, depression, and self-efficacy of runaway adolescents residing in a shelter in Seoul, South Korea. The study used a control group pretest-posttest design. The experimental group and the control group consisted of 14 and 13 male subjects, respectively, with subjects having been randomly assigned to these groups.

Rehabilitation for homeless adolescent substance abusers at a halfway house in Korea.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a rehabilitation program on hope and self-efficacy in a sample of homeless adolescent substance abusers at a halfway house in Seoul, Korea.

Methods: Five residents of a halfway house were provided with a 16-week rehabilitation program based on a cognitive-behavioral approach. To evaluate the effectiveness of the program, this study used a single-case experimental design with the variables - hope and self-efficacy - being measured at pre-, post-, and followup tests.

[Influencing factors on problem behaviors among adolescents: focused on middle school students in Seoul].

Purpose: This study was to investigate the factors influencing problem behaviors among adolescents.

Method: The subjects for this study were 596 students in middle school in Seoul. The data was collected during the period from May to November, 2001 by use of questionnaires.
