Background: Although an appropriate weight management strategy is essential for obese individuals, weight loss can have adverse effects on bone mineral density (BMD). We conducted a systematic review of randomized controlled trials to evaluate changes in BMD after the implementation of various weight loss strategies.
Methods: The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched to find articles published from database inception until June 2023.
Aim: We aimed to investigate whether sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) are associated with a decreased risk of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) compared to other glucose lowering medications (oGLMs).
Methods: This active-comparator, new-user cohort study used the nationwide National Health Insurance Service database of the Republic of Korea from September 2014 to June 2020. From 79,423 new users of SGLT2is and 294,707 new users of oGLMs, we used a propensity score to match 59,954 from each of these two treatment groups.
Radiotherapy is a widely employed technique for eradication of tumor using high-energy beams, and has been applied to approximately 50% of all solid tumor patients. However, its non-specific, cell-killing property leads to inevitable damage to surrounding normal tissues. Recent findings suggest that radiotherapy-induced tissue damage contributes to the formation of a pro-tumorigenic microenvironment.

Aggressive treatment achieving complete obliteration is necessary to prevent further intracranial hemorrhage and neurological deficits. However, SRS treatment of large AVMs (>10 cm) is challenging.

Background And Aims: The estimated glucose disposal rate (eGDR) is an easily accessible clinical parameter for assessing insulin resistance in patients with diabetes mellitus. In this study, we aimed to investigate the link between eGDR and subclinical coronary atherosclerosis in an asymptomatic middle-aged Korean population.
Methods And Results: This study involved 4004 subjects who underwent routine health checkups with coronary multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) at Asan Medical Center from 2007 to 2011, among whom 913 had a follow-up analysis through 2014.

Background: Myosteatosis, ectopic fat accumulation in skeletal muscle, is a crucial component of sarcopenia, linked to various cardiometabolic diseases. This study aimed to analyze the association between dyslipidemia and myosteatosis using abdominal computed tomography (CT) in a large population.
Methods: This study included 11,823 patients not taking lipid-lowering medications with abdominal CT taken between 2012 and 2013.
Due to scarcity of anomaly situations in the early manufacturing stage, an unsupervised anomaly detection (UAD) approach is widely adopted which only uses normal samples for training. This approach is based on the assumption that the trained UAD model will accurately reconstruct normal patterns but struggles with unseen anomalies. To enhance the UAD performance, reconstruction-by-inpainting based methods have recently been investigated, especially on the masking strategy of suspected defective regions.

We aimed to evaluate the 1-year efficacy of dulaglutide in patients with diabetic kidney disease who have used the drug for more than 1 year.
Methods: This retrospective, observational study comprised 131 patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of less than 60 mL/min/1.
The rupture of an internal iliac artery aneurysm in the colon is a rare but potentially fatal complication. We report a rectal fistula of an asymptomatic internal iliac artery aneurysm that was discovered incidentally during a medical examination. A 77-year-old man presented at a local hospital for a general medical examination.

We aimed to assess the quantity and quality of skeletal muscle using each of these diagnostic classifications.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 18 154 participants (11 551 [63.
This study aimed to elucidate the effect of hatching status on in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes in frozen-thawed blastocyst transfer cycles. Frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycles performed at a single fertility center between 2016 and 2021 were retrospectively assessed. Analyses were restricted to 6,821 frozen-thawed blastocyst transfers in women aged 24-47 years.

However, immediate placement has its challenges, including concerns about primary stability and bone formation around the implant. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the clinical outcomes of tapered, sand-blasted, and acid-etched internal submerged dental implants in various regions of the jaw bones and to provide a positional rationale for immediate implant placement.

Homozygous or compound heterozygous GBA1 mutations cause the lysosomal storage disease Gaucher disease (GD) due to severe loss of GCase activity. Loss-of-function variants in the GBA1 gene are also the most common genetic risk factor for Parkinson's disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB).

BNNTs have garnered significant attention because of their unique combination of high thermal stability, mechanical strength, and exceptional neutron absorption properties. Synthesis methods for BNNTs, including laser ablation, thermal plasma treatment, chemical vapour deposition (CVD), and ball milling have been thoroughly examined, highlighting their mechanisms, advantages, and challenges.

Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 5,908 subjects with prediabetes who underwent health check-ups at the Asan Medical Center. CVD risk was estimated using the Framingham Risk Score (FRS).
Lung cancer represents a significant global health concern and stands as the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. The identification of specific genomic alterations such as EGFR and KRAS in lung cancer has paved the way for the development of targeted therapies. While targeted therapies for lung cancer exhibiting EGFR, MET and ALK mutations have been well-established, the options for RET mutations remain limited.

The treatment of PD aims to alleviate motor symptoms by replacing the reduced endogenous dopamine. Currently, there are no disease-modifying agents for the treatment of PD.

While in healthy individuals, dental implants have become commonplace to solve problems of edentulism, whether dental implant treatment is optimal in patients with systemic disease remains unclear. The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical outcomes of tapered, sand-blasted, and acid-etched internal submerged dental implants installed in medically compromised patients in our maxillofacial surgical unit.

In this meta-analysis, we evaluated changes in handgrip strength (HGS) and lean mass (LM) after undergoing bariatric metabolic surgery.
Methods: A systematic literature review using the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases was conducted in November 2022.
Objectives: Intraoperative navigation reduces the risk of major complications and increases the likelihood of optimal surgical outcomes. This paper presents an augmented reality (AR)-based simulation technique for ventriculostomy that visualizes brain deformations caused by the movements of a surgical instrument in a three-dimensional brain model. This is achieved by utilizing a position-based dynamics (PBD) physical deformation method on a preoperative brain image.
