People living with HIV-HCV co-infection comprise a target group for HCV-micro-elimination. We conducted an HCV cascade of care (CoC) for HIV-HCV co-infected individuals living in Greece and investigated factors associated with different HCV-CoC stages. We analyzed data from 1213 participants from the Athens Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied how different immune endotypes affect responses to anakinra treatment in patients with severe pneumonia caused by COVID-19 during the SAVE-MORE trial.
  • The study found that many patients transitioned between immune endotypes during treatment, with anakinra helping those with the adaptive endotype to maintain better outcomes.
  • Anakinra also reduced the risk of severe respiratory failure in patients with a coagulopathic endotype compared to placebo, indicating its potential benefits in managing sepsis-related conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate a blood test that measures MxA and CRP levels to differentiate between viral and bacterial respiratory infections in adults.
  • A total of 537 patients were analyzed, leading to the development of a diagnostic equation with high sensitivity for bacterial infections (91.6%).
  • The findings suggest that using MxA and CRP measurements can effectively identify the type of respiratory infection, helping guide appropriate treatment.

Unlabelled: While primarily described in children, adult-onset Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) has been reported, albeit infrequently. In the present scenario, we unveil a unique case of adult-onset LCH in an HIV-infected individual. After the diagnosis was made, the patient was successfully treated and demonstrated total disease remission.

Black widow spider is endemic in the Mediterranean area and although envenomations are rare, may occasionally lead to death. We present a case of a 64-year-old female developing a rare variant of takotsubo, stress-induced, cardiomyopathy after a spider bite. This resulted in acute heart failure within 24  hours of the bite.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of indinavir/ritonavir (IDV/RTV) 400/100 mg twice daily in combination with two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors in antiretroviral-naive patients.

Design And Methods: Antiviral therapy-naive patients with plasma HIV-1 RNA > 5000 copies/ml were enrolled in this pilot, single-arm study. CD4 cell count and viral load were evaluated at weeks (W) 4, 12, 24 and every 3 months until W48.
