A transmissive single-shot spectrometer has been developed to monitor shot-to-shot spectral structures in the hard X-ray beamline of the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory X-ray Free Electron Laser (PAL-XFEL). The established spectrometer comprises 10 µm-thick Si crystals bent to a radius of curvature of 100 mm. Depending on the photon energy range, either the Si (111) or Si (110) crystal can be selected for spectral analysis.

Various X-ray techniques are employed to investigate specimens in diverse fields. Generally, scattering and absorption/emission processes occur due to the interaction of X-rays with matter. The output signals from these processes contain structural information and the electronic structure of specimens, respectively.

The primary objective of this study was to elucidate the chemical composition, antioxidant properties, and antiproliferative activities of extracts. Two flavonoids, 3'-O-methylorobol and apigenin 7-sulfate, were isolated from the ethyl acetate (EtOAc) extract of . The total phenolic and flavonoid contents of the extracts, as well as their overall antioxidant activities as measured using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and reducing power assays, were investigated.

Mosquito-borne pathogens are a threat to US troops stationed in the Republic of Korea (ROK). Insecticide resistance has been reported in mosquito vectors in the ROK, highlighting the need for a sustained ROK-wide resistance surveillance program. To address this need from April 2022 until October 2022, larvae and pupae of Aedes albopictus, Ae.

Objective: We aimed to investigate the effect of internet-based and in-person cognitive interventions on cognition, mood, and activities of daily living (ADL) on patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease (AD) and examine whether internet-based intervention is as effective as the in-person intervention.

Methods: We recruited 52 patients with probable mild AD, of whom 42 completed the trial. We randomly divided participants into intervention and control groups at a 1:1 ratio and statistically compared the neuropsychological test results of the two groups.

Patients with hematuria are commonly given an invasive cystoscopy test to detect bladder cancer (BC). To avoid the risks associated with cystoscopy, several urine-based methods for BC detection have been developed, the most prominent of which is the deep sequencing of urine DNA. However, the current methods for urine-based BC detection have significant levels of false-positive signals.

, the major components of which are saponins, flavonoids, and polysaccharides, has been established to have excellent pharmacological activity. After ginseng, it is the second most used medicinal plant. To examine the utility of as a sprout crop for plant factory cultivation, we sought to establish a functional substance control model by comparing the transcriptomes of sprouts grown in sterile, in vitro culture using LED light sources.

Aspergillus osteomyelitis (AO) is a rare and often lethal opportunistic infection in predominantly immunocompromised patients. Treatment has shifted from amphotericin therapy to voriconazole monotherapy due to increased effectiveness and less toxicity. We report a case of an immunocompetent woman with vertebral osteomyelitis due to who was successfully treated with surgery (requiring hardware implantation) and monotherapy posaconazole (following intolerance and hepatitis due to voriconazole).

Renal fibrosis is the final manifestation of chronic kidney disease (CKD) regardless of etiology. Hypoxia-inducible factor-2 alpha (HIF-2α) is an important regulator of chronic hypoxia, and the late-stage renal tubular HIF-2α activation exerts protective effects against renal fibrosis. However, its specific role in progressive renal fibrosis remains unclear.

It is usually associated with acute progression of symptoms and can be difficult to diagnose as it does not grow in standard culture media. We report a case of an immunocompetent man in his 70s who presented with 14-month subacute decline with shortness of breath and evidence of a splenic infarct.

Article Synopsis
  • * Out of 1,102 patients analyzed, the prevalence of additional cancers was similar among those with sporadic prostate cancer and those with a family history, though colorectal cancer was more common in patients with a familial history.
  • * The findings suggest that having a family history of prostate cancer is linked to a higher risk of developing colorectal cancer, indicating a potential shared genetic origin between the two cancers.

Immunotherapy has revolutionized cancer treatment with the advent of advanced cell engineering techniques aimed at targeted therapy with reduced systemic toxicity. However, understanding the underlying immune-cancer interactions require development of advanced three-dimensional (3D) models of human tissues. In this study, we fabricated 3D tumor models with increasing complexity to study the cytotoxic responses of CD8T cells, genetically engineered to express mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cell receptors, towards MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells.
