Acoustically bound microfluidic bubble crystals.

Bubbles confined in microchannels self-organize without directly contacting one another when excited by an external acoustic field. The bubbles tend to form periodic "crystal"-like lattices with a finite interbubble distance. This equilibrium distance can be adjusted by simply tuning the acoustic frequency.

Interacting branching process as a simple model of innovation.

We describe innovation in terms of a generalized branching process. Each new invention pairs with any existing one to produce a number of offspring, which is Poisson distributed with mean p. Existing inventions die with probability p/τ at each generation.
