The caudate nucleus is a part of the striatum, and striatal hyperdopaminergia is considered central to the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. How caudate volume is affected in schizophrenia and what role antipsychotics play remains unclear. In early-onset schizophrenia (EOS), where psychosis emerges during a neurodevelopmentally critical phase, the caudate may exhibit a heightened vulnerability to the effects of antipsychotic medications.

ToxTracker is a mammalian cell reporter assay that predicts the genotoxic properties of compounds with high accuracy. By evaluating induction of various reporter genes that play a key role in relevant cellular pathways, it provides insight into chemical mode-of-action (MoA), thereby supporting discrimination of direct-acting genotoxicants and cytotoxic chemicals. A comprehensive interlaboratory validation trial was conducted, in which the principles outlined in OECD Guidance Document 34 were followed, with the primary objectives of establishing transferability and reproducibility of the assay and confirming the ability of ToxTracker to correctly classify genotoxic and non-genotoxic compounds.

Poor overall survival of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients who developed COVID-19 underlies the importance of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. Previous studies of vaccine efficacy have reported weak humoral responses but conflicting results on T cell immunity. Here, we have examined the relationship between humoral and T cell response in 48 HSCT recipients who received two doses of Moderna's mRNA-1273 or Pfizer/BioNTech's BNT162b2 vaccines.

Background: Infections are major causes of disease in cancer patients and pose a major obstacle to the success of cancer care. The global rise of antimicrobial resistance threatens to make these obstacles even greater and hinder continuing progress in cancer care. To prevent and handle such infections, better models of clinical outcomes building on current knowledge are needed.

Chronic graft-versus-host disease is a late complication of allogeneic stem cell transplantation and leads to chronic inflammation and fibrosis in various organs due to dysregulation of donor immune cells. The disease can occur in all organs, but is most frequently seen in the skin, eyes, oral cavity, gastrointestinal tract, genitalia, lungs, muscles, fascia and joints. Chronic graft-versus-host disease is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality, and treatment requires close collaboration between different parts of the specialist health services.

Background: Allogeneic stem cell transplantation is the only curative treatment for several malignant and non-malignant haematological diseases, and is associated with a risk of serious complications. In recent years, several changes have been introduced with the aim of reducing treatment-related complications. This retrospective study reviews quality indicators for patients who underwent transplantation in the period 2015-21.

Emerging evidence suggests brain white matter alterations in adolescents with early-onset psychosis (EOP; age of onset <18 years). However, as neuroimaging methods vary and sample sizes are modest, results remain inconclusive. Using harmonized data processing protocols and a mega-analytic approach, we compared white matter microstructure in EOP and healthy controls using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI).

The aim of the study was to present metal health, psychosocial functioning and quality of life (QoL) of children and adolescents with a difference in sex development (DSD) from their first visit in the newly established multidisciplinary team in 2002-2004 in Norway. A secondary aim was to explore mental health, psychosocial functioning and QoL in the same cohort patient's as for today and finally explore any childhood predictors for these outcomes in adulthood. The first part of the study took place in 2002-2004 in a mixed cohort of children and adolescents born with a DSD in 1982-2002, compared to a healthy comparison group.

Furries can be described as a mediacentric fandom, similar to other fandoms, which organizes around an interest in anthropomorphic art. Past research has also aimed to highlight and understand the sexual motivations of furries, leading to questions regarding the relative strength of fandom and sexual motivations for joining and maintaining membership within the group. The goal of the present study was to test the relative contributions sex- and fandom-related motivations (e.

Background: Both neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental abnormalities have been suggested to be part of the etiopathology of severe mental illness (SMI). Neuron-specific enolase (NSE), mainly located in the neuronal cytoplasm, may indicate the process as it is upregulated after neuronal injury while a switch from non-neuronal enolase to NSE occurs during neuronal maturation.

Methods: We included 1132 adult patients with SMI [schizophrenia (SZ) or bipolar spectrum disorders], 903 adult healthy controls (HC), 32 adolescent patients with SMI and 67 adolescent HC.

Early-onset psychosis (EOP) is among the leading causes of disease burden in adolescents. Negative symptoms and cognitive deficits predicts poorer functional outcome. A better understanding of the association between negative symptoms and cognitive impairment may inform theories on underlying mechanisms and elucidate targets for development of new treatments.

Purpose: GATA2 deficiency is a rare primary immunodeficiency that has become increasingly recognized due to improved molecular diagnostics and clinical awareness. The only cure for GATA2 deficiency is allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). The inconsistency of genotype-phenotype correlations makes the decision regarding "who and when" to transplant challenging.

Schizophrenia is thought to be a neurodevelopmental disorder with neuronal migration, differentiation and maturation disturbances. Tau is a microtubule-associated protein with a crucial role in these processes. Lower circulating tau levels have been reported in adults with schizophrenia, but this association has not been investigated in adolescent psychosis.

To investigate parents' reflections and experiences of having a child born with an appearance-altering condition, interviews with 33 parents of children born with rare craniofacial conditions were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Three themes emerged: "Managing emotions: A dynamic process," "Through another lens: External reminders of difference," and "Awareness of difference: Approaching the child." Findings suggest that although parents learned to accept and love their child's visible difference, external factors such as appearance-altering surgery and other people's reactions activated difficult emotions in parents.
