Objective: Whereas a scalp electroencephalogram (EEG) is important for diagnosing epilepsy, a single routine EEG is limited in its diagnostic value. Only a small percentage of routine EEGs show interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) and overall misdiagnosis rates of epilepsy are 20% to 30%. We aim to demonstrate how network properties in EEG recordings can be used to improve the speed and accuracy differentiating epilepsy from mimics, such as functional seizures - even in the absence of IEDs.

We report copper(II) and copper(III) trifluoromethyl complexes supported by a pyridinedicarboxamide ligand (L) as a platform for investigating the role of electron transfer in C(sp)-H trifluoromethylation. While the copper(II) trifluoromethyl complex is unreactive towards (hetero)arenes, the formal copper(III) trifluoromethyl complex performs C(sp)-H trifluoromethylation of a wide range of (hetero)arenes. Mechanistic studies using the copper(III) trifluoromethyl complex suggest that the mechanism of arene trifluoromethylation is substrate-dependent.

Methods: An interview guide was designed, and structured interviews were conducted with practicing fellowship-trained microsurgeon members of the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgeons between August 2021 and May 2022.
Introduction: Accurate taxonomic profiling of the human microbiome composition is crucial for linking microbial species to health outcomes. Therefore, we created the Clinical Microbiomics Human Microbiome Profiler (CHAMP), a comprehensive tool designed for the profiling of prokaryotes, eukaryotes, and viruses across all body sites.
Methods: CHAMP uses a reference database derived from 30,382 human microbiome samples, covering 6,567 prokaryotic and 244 eukaryotic species, as well as 64,003 viruses.
The coagulation and thrombotic systems of an infant are fundamentally different from those of adults and older children. Hemostatic factors have inherently lower circulation levels in infants and are also affected prenatally by conditions of pregnancy. The unique physiology of neonates can contribute to a procoagulant state, which can result in a high level of morbidity and mortality.

Infants are also susceptible to diseases and conditions in the pregnant person affecting their coagulation system, which can make it difficult to rapidly identify the cause behind coagulopathy in a neonate. Coagulation disorders can result in high levels of infant morbidity and mortality, which makes early diagnosis and prompt treatment critical.

Neonatal-perinatal medicine (NPM) lacks a racially and ethnically diverse physician workforce. Fewer trainees from groups underrepresented in medicine (URiM) are entering NPM due to declining match rates in general pediatrics, financial burdens from delaying workforce entry, and ineffective recruitment into NPM. Annual surveys from the Organization of Neonatology Training Program Directors (ONTPD) were analyzed to assess URiM recruitment trends between 2021 and 2023.

Background: Multiple skin-sparing incisions are utilized in immediate post-mastectomy breast reconstruction; however, the Wise pattern incision (WPI) may have superior cosmetic outcomes for large ptotic breasts compared to non-Wise pattern incisions (NWPI). We evaluated patient demographics and surgical outcomes with WPI versus NWPI.
Methods: An electronic medical record search was performed for patients at a single academic institution from 2019 to 2022 with ICD-10-CM diagnosis code "Z42.
Objective: While meniscal repair is preferable to meniscectomy, some cases may be at higher risk of failure if repaired. Incorporating fibrin clot (FC) into the repair has been proposed to improve healing rates. The purpose of this study was to determine the failure rates, patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) and complications of FC augmented meniscal repair for cases considered to be at higher risk of failure.
