The prompt production of the charm baryon Λ_{c}^{+} and the Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} production ratios were measured at midrapidity with the ALICE detector in pp and p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. These new measurements show a clear decrease of the Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} ratio with increasing transverse momentum (p_{T}) in both collision systems in the range 2
Objective: A common expectation for patients after elective spine surgery is that the procedure will result in pain reduction and minimize the need for pain medication. Most studies report changes in pain and function after spine surgery, but few report the extent of opioid use after surgery. This systematic review aims to identify the rates of opioid use after lumbar spine fusion.

We collected data about activities outside the workplace and COVID-19 patient care activities from HCP with positive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) test results (cases) and from HCP with negative test results (controls) in healthcare facilities in 5 US states. We used conditional logistic regression to calculate adjusted matched odds ratios and 95% CIs for exposures.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFSecondary femoral fractures after the successful plate-screw fixation of a primary Vancouver type B1 periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF) have been associated with the altered state of stress/strain in the femur as the result of plating. The laterally implanted condyle-spanning plate-screw constructs have shown promises clinically in avoiding secondary bone and implant failures as compared with shorter diaphyseal plates. Though the condyle-spanning plating has been hypothesized to avoid stress concentration in the femoral diaphysis through increasing the working length of the plate, biomechanical evidence is lacking on how plate length may impact the stress/strain state of the implanted femur.

In this study, evaluation of 250 unrelated patients with developmental and epileptic encephalopathies and a connection on GeneMatcher led to the identification of three de novo missense variants in FZR1. Whole-exome sequencing in 39 patient-parent trios and subsequent targeted sequencing in an additional cohort of 211 patients was performed to identify novel genes involved in developmental and epileptic encephalopathy.

Systematic analysis of essential genes provides a powerful strategy to discover potential antifungal targets. Here, we build a machine learning model to generate genome-wide gene essentiality predictions for C.

Most biological designs, however, are still specified at the sequence level. Consequently, there exists a need for a tool that can be used to automatically infer component-based design representations from sequences, particularly in cases when those sequences have minimal levels of annotation.

Interviews with 15 Tennessee Advanced Practice Registered Nurses early in the COVID-19 pandemic revealed a major theme of mental health challenges unrelated to the primary study purpose. Without direct prompts, 13 out of 15 interviewees mentioned mental health issues among patients and 14 of the 15 interviewees discussed provider mental health problems. A secondary analysis of interview transcripts revealed three themes associated with mental health challenges: general barriers to mental health care, patient-specific concerns, and provider issues.

January 2022
Tick-borne rickettsial infections are serious, common, and difficult to diagnose. Among the most important factors leading to failure to diagnose and treat tick-borne rickettsioses effectively is a lack of consideration of the potential diagnosis by primary caregivers and emergency department physicians in patients presenting with undifferentiated acute febrile illness during tick season. This situation exists because of insufficient primary and continuing medical education of medical students, primary care and emergency medicine residents, and practicing physicians regarding tick-borne rickettsioses specific to the region where they practice.

The result is obtained from two-particle correlations of combined p-ϕ⊕ p[over ¯]-ϕ pairs measured in high-multiplicity pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The spin-averaged scattering length and effective range of the p-ϕ interaction are extracted from the fully corrected correlation function employing the Lednický-Lyuboshits approach.

Significant human effort associated with manual tracking presents a major bottleneck in biomechanics research methods and limits the scale of target applications. The current work introduces a method for fully-automatic tracking of tibiofemoral and patellofemoral kinematics in stereo-radiography sequences for subjects performing dynamic activities.

Some typical practices and conventions have begun to emerge for such diagrams. SBOL Visual aims to organize and systematize such conventions in order to produce a coherent language for expressing the structure and function of genetic designs.

Similar to asynchronous electronic circuits, some combinational genetic circuits may show unwanted switching variations () caused by multiple input changes. Depending on the biological circuit, glitches can cause irreversible effects and jeopardize the circuit's functionality.

While there are a number of large community repositories of design information, curation of this information has been limited. This in turn limits the ways in which design information can be put to use.

The cluster of long-term symptoms is unique to military personnel from coalition countries including United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom that served in Operation Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991. Reporting of these symptoms is much lower among soldiers deployed in other parts of the world like Bosnia during the same time period.

Unlike for single-guide RNA (sgRNA) pooled screening platforms, combinatorial scoring for multiplexed systems is confounded by guide design parameters such as the number of gRNAs per construct, the position of gRNAs along constructs, and additional features that may impact gRNA expression, processing or capture. In this protocol we describe Orthrus, an R package for processing, scoring and analyzing combinatorial CRISPR screening data that addresses these challenges.

We find that different three-harmonic correlations develop during the collective evolution of the medium when compared to correlations that exist in the initial state. These new results cannot be interpreted in terms of previous lower-order flow measurements since contributions from two-harmonic correlations are explicitly removed in the new observables.

However, due to the lack of direct measurement of in vivo performance of the PFF fixation construct, it is unknown whether current standard mechanical tests or previous experimental and computational studies have appropriately reproduced the in vivo mechanics of the plate. To provide a basis for the evaluation and development of appropriate mechanical tests for assessment of plate fracture risk, this study applied loads of common activities of daily living (ADLs) to implanted femur finite element (FE) models with PFF fixation constructs with an existing or a healed PFF.
