Alzheimer's disease (AD) drastically impacts cognitive and noncognitive behaviors in both humans and animal models. Two hallmark proteins in AD, amyloid-β plaques and tau neurofibrillary tangles, accumulate in regions of the brain critical for learning and memory, including the hippocampus.
