Background & Aims: Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) results from portal hypertension, with or without cirrhosis, and is marked by pulmonary vascular dilations leading to severe hypoxemia. Although placental growth factor (PlGF) is important for vascular growth and endothelial function, its role in HPS is unclear.
