Tendon structure is predominantly composed of the extracellular matrix (ECM), and genetic variants in non-collagenous ECM components may influence susceptibility to tendinopathy. We investigated the potential influence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in fibrillin-2 (), tenascin-C (), and matrix metalloproteinase-3 () on the tendon regeneration failure phenotype and impact on the susceptibility to tendinopathy in Brazilian high-performance athletes. This case-control study was conducted with 397 high-performance athletes from different sports modalities (197 tendinopathy cases and 200 controls), and they were analyzed by validated TaqMan SNP genotyping assays of the SNPs (rs331079), (rs2104772), and (rs591058).

Objective: To present a review of patients subjected to gradual correction of a valgus deformity of the tibia using a monolateral external fixator.

Method: This retrospective review included patients from January 2012 to May 2022 who met the following inclusion criteria: deviation of mechanical axis of the limb due to valgus deformity of the tibia; tibial deformity in the coronal plane on radiographic examination; a documented outpatient pre-operative evaluation by an orthopaedic surgeon and age between 10 and 70 years. The following exclusion criteria were applied: the presence of another tibia deformity preventing gradual correction using the proposed assembly; skin conditions incompatible with the surgical procedure; inadequate pre- or post-operative radiological evaluation; and insufficient information in the medical records.

The valgus deformity in the tibia requires correction because it places increased pressure on the lateral compartment of the knee, intensifying the degenerative process. Correction strategies are diverse and depend on patient profile, age, and soft-tissue conditions as well as the orthopaedic surgeon's experience with different surgical materials. Deformity size and location are the primary factors contributing to material and shape choice, whether gradual or acute.

Complex proximal humeral fractures, especially in elderly patients, often require arthroplastic surgical treatment. Traditionally, shoulder hemiarthroplasty (HA) is the method of choice, resulting in long implant survival and a painless shoulder; however, shoulder HA has heterogeneous clinical outcomes related to the correct position of the implant, both in terms of height and version, and the anatomical consolidation of tuberosities. Methods: patients with a diagnosis of RCA associated with pseudoparalysis of anterior elevation who underwent reverse arthroplasty of the shoulder with a minimum follow-up of one year were selected.
