Progress in psychiatric treatment has led to important improvements in the quality of life of patients with severe mental illness (SMI). Nevertheless, the life expectancy of patients with SMI remains two decades shorter than that of the general population, and the most prevalent cause of death is cardiovascular disease. Given that the delivery of somatic care to a population of individuals with mental illness is specific, we developed a screening and intervention programme aimed at this vulnerable population.

Article Synopsis
  • Dentists, identified as a high-risk group for COVID-19, showed significantly higher vaccination rates (85.8% fully vaccinated, 70.1% with a booster) compared to the general Czech population (74.9% and 49.4%, respectively).
  • Despite the high infection risk in dentistry, the study found lower COVID-19 prevalence among dentists (41.7%) than in the general population (49.9%), suggesting that enhanced protective measures were effective.
  • The findings indicated that vaccinated dentists experienced fewer complications and faster recovery, with a majority expressing willingness for future vaccinations, and showed support for mandatory vaccinations in both healthcare and the general population.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL), a common B-cell cancer, emphasizing that while many patients achieve remission with standard therapies, some relapse or have refractory disease, which raises concerns about long-term prognosis.
  • - Researchers conducted a retrospective analysis involving 120 patients to study the relationship between PD-L1 expression on Hodgkin-Reed-Sternberg cells and patient outcomes, with a median follow-up of 90 months.
  • - Results revealed that patients with positive PD-L1 expression had a higher relapse/refractory rate (28%) compared to those with negative expression, who did not experience any relapses, indicating that PD-L1 positivity is associated with poorer outcomes in cHL.
