Introduction: New medical interns face a steep learning curve as they must manage complex medical scenarios, many of which they have only seen before in a classroom setting. To ameliorate these challenges, medical schools are increasingly including courses designed to address the transition from student to doctor. One of the biggest challenges for new interns is learning to triage and manage nursing pages, so we designed a mock paging program incorporated within our fourth-year transitions course.

To evaluate the security of a symmetric cryptosystem against any quantum attack, the symmetric algorithm must be first implemented on a quantum platform. In this study, a quantum implementation of a classical block cipher is presented. A quantum circuit for a classical block cipher of a polynomial size of quantum gates is proposed.

Decreasing water pollution is a big problem in coastal waters. Coastal health of ecosystems can be affected by high concentrations of suspended sediment. In this work, a Modified Hopfield Neural Network Algorithm (MHNNA) was used with remote sensing imagery to classify the total suspended solids (TSS) concentrations in the waters of coastal Langkawi Island, Malaysia.

Introduction: To improve laser hair removal (LHR) for dark skin, the fluence rate reaching the hair follicle in LHR is important. This paper presents the results of a comparative study examining the function of wavelength on dark skin types using 755 nm alexandrite and 810 nm diode lasers.

Methods: The structure of the skin was created using a realistic skin model by the Advanced Systems Analysis Program.

Electrocortical evidence indicates that a wave of synaptic proliferation occurs in the frontal lobes around the age of puberty onset. To study its potential influence on cognition, we examined 246 children (10-17 years) and 49 young adults (18-22 years) using a match-to-sample type of task to measure reaction times to assess emotionally related information. Based upon the instruction set, subjects made a yes/no decision about the emotion expressed in a face, a word, or a face/word combination presented tachistoscopically for 100 ms.

This paper proposes that the healing suggestions we create when utilizing psychotherapy with hypnosis reflect the current dominant cultural belief systems. Since Western medicine is founded on and continues to rely on the model of patriarchy, then it is not surprising that common hypnotic metaphors reflect this mindset, best represented by the military metaphor. Because this very cultural view has been so damaging to women's health, continuing to utilize this same language only serves to perpetuate victimization and thus poor health.

The purpose of this study was to compare electrocardiographic (ECG) morphologies of nonsustained ventricular tachycardias (VTs) during Holter monitoring with the ECG morphology of documented, sustained, monomorphic VTs during the spontaneous event of tachycardia in 14 patients (9 with coronary artery disease), in whom a sustained, spontaneous monomorphic VT had been documented in a 12-lead ECG. All patients had a 24-hour Holter ECG without antiarrhythmic medication. Channel 1 of the Holter ECG was compared with leads V1, V2, and V3, and channel 2 with leads V4, V5, and V6.

It is often possible to establish the origin of an arthosis of the hip joint radiologically. Only in 17 out of 445 patients were we unable to arrive at a classification because the arthrosis was already too advanced. Data relating to the history are of limited value -- only 21% of our patients knew of earlier disorders of the joint --, so definition of causes an radiographs is important.
