Salmonella enterica serovar Give causing brain abscess and bacteremia: A case report.

Non-typhoidal Salmonellosis are an important cause of gastroenteritis and invasive disease in developing countries, with increase resistance and mortality in paediatric age group. We report here, a rare case of bacteremia and brain abscess in a 3year old female child with Salmonella enterica serovar Give as a causative organism.

Multimodal Neuromonitoring in Pediatric Neurocritical Care: Current Perspectives.

Children with neurological illness in the critical care unit are always at higher risk of developing secondary brain injury (SBI). Brain insult can lead to changes in cerebral autoregulation, intracranial pressure (ICP), cerebral oxygenation, and metabolism. This can cause a raised ICP, cerebral ischemia, hypoxia, excitotoxicity, cellular energy failure, and nonconvulsive status epilepticus.

Is Performance of Routine Central Compartment Neck Dissection in cN0 Papillary Thyroid Cancers Really Useful? 10-Year Prospective Observational Study.

Central compartment nodes of neck are the first echelon nodes in papillary thyroid cancers (PTC). This study analyses the adverse parameters associated with central compartment nodal metastasis in cN0 PTC and also the usefulness of performing central compartment neck dissection routinely. A total of 236 patients with cNo PTC who underwent prophylactic central compartment neck dissection, from January 2008 to June 2017 in the Department of Oncology, Madurai Medical College, were included in study.

Validation of cancer institute quality of life questionnaire version II for cancer patients in India.

Background: The Quality of Life (QOL) questionnaire version I consisted of 38 items that were validated using 392 patients. The experiences gained through the interaction with the patients during the administration of the questionnaire provided a lot of inputs for the improvization of the tool.

Aim: The current study is aimed at certain modifications of the QOL questionnaire version I and standardization of the same.

Impact of naringenin on glycoprotein levels in N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine-induced gastric carcinogenesis in rats.

We have studied the chemopreventive role of naringenin against experimental gastric carcinogenesis in male Wistar rats. The animals were divided into five groups and six animals were included in each group. Stomach, liver, sera and kidney specimens were collected in the 20th week and the level of glycoproteins namely, hexose, hexosamine, sialic acid and fucose, were measured in the control, gastric cancer-induced, cancer naringenin pretreated, cancer naringenin posttreated and naringenin alone animals.

Validation of quality of life questionnaire for patients with cancer--Indian scenario.

Background: Quality of Life (QOL) is an important health outcome measure in oncology. Given the underlying pressure of individual geo-political entities, a universal solution may not be applicable and hence there is a need to develop a regional tool and standardize the same to address the linguistic and socio-cultural factors.

Objective: To standardize a tool to assess the QOL of patients with cancer to suit the Indian scenario.

Antiproliferative effect of diallyl disulfide (DADS) on prostate cancer cell line LNCaP.

Garlic has been used throughout the world to treat coughs, toothache, earache, dandruff, hypertension, hysteria, diarrhoea, dysentery, diptheria, vaginitis and many other conditions. Garlic contains a complex mixture of oil and water-soluble organosulfur compounds. Diallyl disulfide (DADS), an oil-soluble constituent of garlic seems to be effective in reducing tumour cells originating from colon, lung and skin.

Effect of Aroclor 1254 on Sertoli cellular antioxidant system, androgen binding protein and lactate in adult rat in vitro.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are persistent and bioaccumulative environmental toxicants. Previous studies suggested that PCBs (Aroclor 1254) induce toxic effects including reproductive toxicity. The present study was designed to investigate the impact of Aroclor 1254 on Sertoli cellular function and antioxidant system of adult rat in vitro.
