Novel CRISPR/Cas13-based assay for detection of bovine coronavirus associated with severe diarrhea in calves.

Bovine coronavirus (BCoV) is one of the important causes of diarrhoea in cattle. The virus is responsible for the high fatality rate associated with acute diarrhoea in calves. Rapid and accurate tests need to be conducted to detect the virus and minimise economic losses associated with the disease.

Materials And Methods: A total of 102 cases of were included in this study; 72 specimens were isolated from human with UTIs and 30 specimens were isolated from milk of cattle with acute mastitis. Diagnosis was done by VITEK 2 Compact after subculture and purification.

Aim: This study was directed during an outbreak of suspected foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in cattle in Al-Qadisiyah province, Iraq 2016. The disease has made a huge economic loss in livestock. It was suspected that the vaccination has failed to protect the animals from the infection because of the difference in the strains.
