Cardiac troponin T (cTnT), a highly sensitive and specific indicator of myocardial cell death, may be elevated in congestive heart failure (CHF). The aims of this study were to test the hypothesis that decompensated CHF may be associated with an increase in cTnT release and to correlate between cTnT levels and patient outcomes. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relationship of cardiac autonomic modulation impairments, as assessed by means of heart rate variability (HRV), with clinical characteristics, and left ventricular function in the patients with CRF undergoing hemodialysis (HD).
Methods: Twenty control subjects (Group I) and 22 comparable by age and gender patients with CRF undergoing hemodialysis (Group II) were enrolled in the study.
A 32-year-old woman is described as having the following characteristics of Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy: humeroperoneal muscular atrophy and weakness, neck and elbow contractures with sinus bradycardia, first-degree atrioventricular block, and dilated cardiomyopathy. The biopsy specimen of skeletal muscle showed dystrophic character; a cardiac endomyocardial biopsy specimen showed adipose tissue infiltration and deposition of antihuman IgG. Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy is an X-linked recessive myopathy.
