Article Synopsis
  • * Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is a temporary heart condition often triggered by stress, but its causes and effects are not well understood, affecting around 1-2% of acute coronary syndrome cases.
  • * A study analyzed hospital data from 2016 to 2020, finding significant racial and ethnic disparities in TTS outcomes; most patients were White, with minorities generally younger and from lower-income backgrounds.
  • * Key findings include higher rates of stroke and mortality in Black and Asian patients, respectively, emphasizing the urgent need for targeted interventions to address healthcare inequalities related to TTS.

Recent randomized clinical trials demonstrated that treatment with sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) reduces the risk of cardiac mortality due to sudden cardiac death and progressive pump failure in patients with heart failure (HF). Mechanisms underlying the potential anti-arrhythmic effects of SGLT2is are not well understood. We aimed to examine the effect of SGLT2i treatment on the frontal-plane QRS-T (f[QRS-T]) angle, a novel marker of myocardial repolarization and an independent predictor of adverse cardiac outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the link between the severity of coronary artery lesions, measured by the SYNTAX score, and post-discharge sleep quality, assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).
  • A total of 424 patients with acute coronary syndrome participated, with 69.34% having a SYNTAX score of ≤22 and the rest >22, revealing no significant differences in age or sex distribution between the groups.
  • The analysis found that while several factors were linked to poor sleep quality, only a high SYNTAX score (>22) was independently associated with worse sleep quality after discharge.

BACKGROUND Myocarditis is cardiac muscle inflammation caused by infectious or noninfectious agents. Rarely, clozapine, an atypical antipsychotic drug used to treat resistant schizophrenia, has been reported to cause myocarditis, as we report in this case. CASE REPORT A 29-year-old man, who was known to have schizophrenia and was on olanzapine therapy, presented in our Emergency Department with active psychosis, and was subsequently admitted to the psychiatric ward for refractory schizophrenia.

Many hypotheses have been proposed to explain no-reflow (NR). Some of these hypotheses, state that NR may be caused by damage to the vascular endothelium and an inflammatory process. In a recent study that did not include patients with coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), the ratio of C-reactive protein (CRP) to albumin (CAR) was found to be associated with NR.

Background: The importance of monocyte count-to-HDL-cholesterol ratio (MHR) in cardio- vascular diseases has been shown in various studies. Ascending aortic dilatation (AAD) is a common complication in the patients with bicuspid aortic valve. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between MHR and the presence of aortic dilatation in the patients with bicuspid aortic valve.

Background: Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) causes morbidity and mortality in an increasing number of people worldwide. Although it mainly affects the respiratory system, it influences all organs, including the heart. It is associated with a broad spectrum of widespread cardiovascular problems ranging from mild myocardial injury to fulminant myocarditis.

Lead exposure has etiological role on cardiovascular system diseases as hypertension, atherosclerosis, stroke, and arrhythmic events. In this study, we aimed to compare the basal and arrhythmogenic ECG parameters of lead exposed workers before and after chelation therapy and to evaluate the effect of acute change of blood lead levels on ECG. Fourty consecutive occupationally lead exposed workers were enrolled, demographic, blood, echocardiographic, and electrocardiographic data's were analyzed before and after chelation therapy.

Background: New-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is the most common arrhythmia following coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) and is associated with prolonged hospitalization, stroke, and mortality. The frontal plane QRS-T [f(QRS-T)] angle, which is defined as the angle between the directions of ventricular depolarization (QRS-axis) and repolarization (T-axis), is a novel marker of ventricular repolarization heterogeneity. The f(QRS-T) angle is associated with adverse cardiac outcomes.

Background: The evaluation of thromboembolic risk is the cornerstone of atrial fibrillation (AF) management. Thromboembolic risk is associated with the presence of left atrial (LA) thrombus and spontaneous echo contrast (SEC), namely the thromboembolic milieu.

Aims: We aimed to assess the predictors of the thromboembolic milieu in terms of LA thrombus and/ or SEC in patients with paroxysmal AF undergoing electrical cardioversion or catheter ablation, and to develop an effective risk model for detecting the thromboembolic milieu.

. Frontal plane QRS-T angle is a novel marker of myocardial repolarization, and an increased frontal plane QRS-T angle is associated with adverse cardiac outcomes. Slow coronary flow may cause fatal cardiac arrhythmias by causing electrical abnormalities and altering ventricular repolarization.

We evaluated the relationship between nesfatin-1 and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and Mediterranean diet scores. 67 patients with AMI and 33 patients with normal coronary arteries (control group) were included in the study. The patients with AMI were divided into 2 groups based on low (<32) (n = 33) and high values of the synergy between percutaneous coronary intervention with Taxus and cardiac surgery (SYNTAX) scores (≥34) (n = 35).

Aim: We aimed to investigate the association of estimated whole blood viscosity (WBV) with hemodynamic parameters and prognosis in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

Materials & Methods: Total of 542 patients were included and followed-up for median 13 months.

Results: The WBV parameters had negative relationship with right atrium pressure and positive correlation with cardiac index.

Objective: Nesfatin-1 is a novel anorectic neuropeptide with potent metabolic regulatory effects. It regulates blood pressure, heart rate, cardiomyocyte metabolism and permeability. SYNTAX score, which is an angiographic scoring system, defines the grade and complexity of coronary artery disease (CAD).
