Context: In the last decade the Sanger method of DNA sequencing has been replaced by next-generation sequencing (NGS). NGS is valuable in conditions characterized by high genetic heterogeneity such as neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM).
Objective: To compare results of genetic analysis of patients with NDM and congenital severe insulin resistance (c.
Aim/hypothesis: To compare the frequency of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) at diagnosis of type 1 diabetes in Italy during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 with the frequency of DKA during 2017-2019.
Methods: Forty-seven pediatric diabetes centers caring for >90% of young people with diabetes in Italy recruited 4,237 newly diagnosed children with type 1 diabetes between 2017 and 2020 in a longitudinal study. Four subperiods in 2020 were defined based on government-imposed containment measures for COVID-19, and the frequencies of DKA and severe DKA compared with the same periods in 2017-2019.
Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the near-final height (nFHt) in a large cohort of pediatricpatients with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and to elaborate a new predictive method of nFHt.
Methods: We recruited GHD patients diagnosed between 1987 and 2014 and followed-up until nFHt. To predict the values of nFHt, each predictor was run in a univariable spline.
Introduction: Management of newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes (T1D) in children and adolescents is challenging for patients, families and healthcare professionals. The objective of this study is to determine whether continued intensive metabolic control using hybrid closed-loop (CL) insulin delivery following diagnosis of T1D can preserve C-peptide secretion, a marker of residual beta-cell function, compared with standard multiple daily injections (MDI) therapy.
Methods And Analysis: The study adopts an open-label, multicentre, randomised, parallel design, and aims to randomise 96 participants aged 10-16.
Introduction: Closed-loop systems titrate insulin based on sensor glucose levels, providing novel means to reduce the risk of hypoglycaemia while improving glycaemic control. We will assess effectiveness of 6-month day-and-night closed-loop insulin delivery compared with usual care (conventional or sensor-augmented pump therapy) in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes.
Methods And Analysis: The trial adopts an open-label, multicentre, multinational (UK and USA), randomised, single-period, parallel design.
Objective: To evaluate the experiences of families with very young children aged 1 to 7 years (inclusive) with type 1 diabetes using day-and-night hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery.
Methods: Parents/caregivers of 20 children aged 1 to 7 years with type 1 diabetes completed a closed-loop experience survey following two 3-week periods of unrestricted day-and-night hybrid closed-loop insulin therapy using Cambridge FlorenceM system at home. Benefits, limitations, and improvements of closed-loop technology were explored.
Objective: We aimed to assess the feasibility and safety of hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery in children with type 1 diabetes aged 1-7 years as well as evaluate the role of diluted insulin on glucose control.
Research Design And Methods: In an open-label, multicenter, multinational, randomized crossover study, 24 children with type 1 diabetes on insulin pump therapy (median age 5 years [interquartile range 3-6] and mean ± SD HbA 7.4 ± 0.
Background: Physical therapist program level successes have been associated with cognitive and noncognitive predictors. To our knowledge, no studies in physical therapy have explored predictive criteria for positive professional performance (PPP) in one's career beyond an educational program. The two-fold purpose of this study was to analyze what traits were key indicators of PPP beyond one's academic preparation, with secondary goal to determine whether traits related to PPP could be mediated by academic preparation.

However, whereas the interest in CEC studies has grown, the standardization level of their detection has not. Here, we undertook the task to align CEC phenotypes and counts, by standardizing a novel flow cytometry approach, within a network of six laboratories.

A variety of complex culture media and techniques developed from different basal media have been reported with alternate success. Incongruous results are further confounded by donor-to-donor variability and cellular source of derivation.

Background: We aimed to evaluate if the use of an intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) during cardioplegic arrest improves organ function and reduces endothelial activation in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).
Methods And Results: Five-hundred and one CABG patients were randomized into 2 groups: (Group A n=270) linear cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB); and (Group B n=231) automatic 80 beats/min IABP-induced pulsatile CPB. We evaluated hemodynamic response, coagulation and fibrinolysis, transaminase, bilirubin, amylase, lactate, renal function (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR], creatinine and any possibility of renal insufficiency or failure), respiratory function and endothelial markers (vascular endothelial growth factor [VEGF] and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 [MCP-1]).
Background: Facilitation of reflective practice is critical for the ongoing demands of health care practitioners. Reflective thinking concepts, grounded in the work of Dewey and Schön, emphasize critical reflection to promote transformation in beliefs and learning necessary for reflective practice. The Reflective Thinking Questionnaire (QRT) and Revised Study Process Questionnaire (RSPQ-2F) assess skill aspects of professional reasoning, with promise for measuring changes over time.

This study assessed CCMR pre/post learning outcomes through the Inventory for Assessing the Process of Cultural Competence-Revised((c)) (IAPCC-R).
Methods: Subjects included: 100 MED, 140 NSG, 36 PT, 11 OT and 53 PHARM IHSS.
Adopting the American Physical Therapy Association Clinical Performance Instrument, physical therapy (PT) interns are required to self-assess, hence the need for development of self-assessment abilities. The purpose of this research was threefold: (1) to develop an interview guide instrument to gather qualitative data, (2) to investigate the experience of self-assessment of PT students and new graduates, and (3) to identify training needs and propose a plan to incorporate self-assessment for PT lifelong learners. This study evaluated the self-assessment abilities of PT learners by investigating the following self-assessment components: (1) abilities and skills, (2) barriers and/or support, (3) training needs, and (4) essential elements for development.

If we consider that approximately 20% of patients have nodal obturator metastases, then we must concede that extended lymphadenectomy is useless in the other 80% of patients. We set out to determine whether lymphoscintigraphy could show the lymphatic drainage from the cancer toward the obturator lymph nodes and thus help us to select the patients who would benefit by their removal.

Eighteen consecutive patients underwent the procedure. There was no mortality and no pancreaticogastrostomy leaks occurred.

Clinical examination is the foundation of the diagnosis and radiological findings (ultrasonography, colonic X-rays, CT and NMR) permit to exclude other pathologies which concern differential diagnosis. They suggest prosthetic repair, similar to the therapy of groin hernias, using a tension-free technique.

They stress the value of early diagnosis by using X-ray study of upper gastrointestinal tract and immediately surgical treatment, very important for favourable prognosis.
