A series of luminescent CuI clusters with stair-step, cubane, and octahedral geometries supported by a novel type of cyclic As,N-ligand, pyridyl-containing 10-phenoxarsines, were synthesized and characterized by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. An unusual arrangement of As,N-bidentate and μ-iodo ligands was found in the octahedral cluster. The structural diversity of the Cu(I) complexes is reflected in their photophysical properties: the phosphorescence spectra of the compounds display emission in a broad spectral range of 495-597 nm.

Two luminescent CuI-cubane tetramers with -methyl-10-(-halogenophenyl)-5,10-dihydrophenarsazine ligands were synthesized and characterized by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The UV-Vis absorption and emission properties were studied and rationalized by DFT and time-dependent DFT calculations. The luminescence behavior was found to be rather different from that of recently reported tetranuclear copper iodide cubane clusters based on As,O-analogues - 10-(aryl)phenoxarsines.

Synthesis and structural and photophysical characterization of platinum dihalogenide complexes formulated as [PtHalL], where Hal = Cl and I, with different 10-(aryl)phenoxarsine ligands such as 10-(-chlorophenyl)phenoxarsine, 10-(-tolyl)phenoxarsine, and 10-(phenyl)phenoxarsine are reported. The structures of complexes were determined by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and X-ray analysis. Cis/trans isomerism of the complexes in solution was studied by NMR spectroscopy.

Blakemore probe-obturator was previously preferable for primary hemostasis in patients with bleeding from esophageal varices. Currently, Danis self-expanding nitinol stent became an effective alternative. According to some manufacturers, Danis stent has some advantages over balloon tamponade.

In this work, we present the synthesis, structural and photophysical characterization, and theoretical study of tetranuclear copper(i) cubane-type Cu4I4 clusters 6-10 with different 10-(aryl)phenoxarsine ligands - 10-(p-fluorophenyl)phenoxarsine (1), 10-(p-ethoxyphenyl)phenoxarsine (2), 10-(phenyl)phenoxarsine (3), 10-(m-fluorophenyl)phenoxarsine (4), and 10-(o-methoxyphenyl)phenoxarsine (5), respectively. The structures of 1-5 were confirmed by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis and for complexes 6, 7, and 10 by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The UV/Vis absorption and emission properties were studied and rationalized by DFT and time-dependent DFT calculations.

Aim: To determine the detectability of foci of acute ischemic stroke (AI) using neuroimaging methods depending on the localization, timing and severity of stroke.

Material And Methods: A retrospective evaluation of 100 case histories of patients hospitalized for ischemic stroke (IS) with determination of the timing of neuroimaging study, fibrinogen level, glucose, INR, NIHSS scores on admission to the hospital, assessment of stroke localization (hemispheric or brainstem), the severity of atherosclerosis of the brachiocephalic arteries (BCA) and presence of atrial fibrillation (AF) was performed. During the stay in the hospital, 54 patients were re-examined to clarify the diagnosis.

A series of 23 novel bis-phosphonium salts based on pyridoxine were synthesized and their antibacterial activities were evaluated in vitro. All compounds were inactive against gram-negative bacteria and exhibited the structure-dependent activity against gram-positive bacteria. The antibacterial activity enhanced with the increase in chain length at acetal carbon atom in the order n-Pr>Et>Me.

A series of 13 phosphonium salts on the basis of pyridoxine derivatives were synthesized and their antibacterial activity against clinically relevant strains was tested in vitro. All compounds were almost inactive against gram-negative bacteria and exhibited structure-dependent activity against gram-positive bacteria. A crucial role of ketal protection group in phosphonium salts for their antibacterial properties was demonstrated.

The first derivatives containing two lupan backbones were synthesized by the interaction of betulonic acid chloride with diols (ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol) and monoethanolamine. A modification of ring A of ethylene-l,2-bis(betulonnate) led to its bis(3beta-aminopropyloxy) and bis(3,4-seco-2-cyano) derivatives.

We have derived an analytical effective-mass model and employed first-principles density functional theory to study the spatial confinement of carriers in core-shell and multishell structured semiconductor nanowires. The band offset effect is analyzed based on the subband charge density distributions, which is strongly dependent upon the strain relaxation. First-principles calculation results for spatially confined Si/Ge and GaN/GaP nanowires indicate accumulation of a Ge-core hole gas and a GaN-core electron gas, respectively, in agreement with experimental observations.

The theory of guided waves in metal-dielectric planar multilayer structures is applied to reduce the loss and maximize optical nonlinearity for efficient terahertz-field generation in a surface electromagnetic wave by femtosecond laser pulses confined in a (chi)((2)) nonlinear planar waveguide. For typical parameters of thin-film polymer waveguides and metal-dielectric interfaces, the optimal size of the (chi)((2)) waveguide core providing the maximum efficiency of terahertz plasmon-field generation is shown to be less than the wavelength of the optical pump field.

Circular arrays of plasma filaments induced by femtosecond laser pulses in atmospheric air are shown to support guided modes of electromagnetic radiation in the centimeter and millimeter wavelength range. With the refractive index of laser-induced filaments being lower than the refractive index of nonionized air, arrays of such filaments can serve as a structured waveguide cladding, providing an index guiding of radar signals in a nonionized gas region. In spite of attenuation of radar radiation induced by plasma absorption, filament-array waveguides are shown to enhance radar signal transmission relative to freely propagating radar beams.

Surgical methods of treatment of diureticoresistant ascites in 198 patients with portal hypertension are analyzed: portocaval bypass (n = 16), lymphovenous anastomosis (n = 64), ductolysis (n = 24), and peritoneovenous bypass (n = 94). The most stable positive results was achieved after portocaval bypass, but it can be performed only in a small part of patients. Peritoneovenous bypass and lymphovenous anastomosis demonstrated shorter effect but they had less risk and were better tolerated than portocaval bypass.

During experimental hernioplasty with the application of the "Regeneration stimulator" in 38 dogs it was discovered that the rehabilitation period of the abdominal walls after the operation was considerably shorter. An experience with surgical treatment of 42 patients with postoperative ventral hernias is described. To remove the defect of the anterior abdominal wall by different intraoperative methods "the regeneration stimulator" was used in the zone of plasty.
