Introduction: During COVID-19 pandemic, artificial neural network (ANN) systems have been providing aid for clinical decisions. However, to achieve optimal results, these models should link multiple clinical data points to simple models. This study aimed to model the in-hospital mortality and mechanical ventilation risk using a two step approach combining clinical variables and ANN-analyzed lung inflammation data.

The surface and the "bulk" structure of TiNi implants were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning Auger microprobe analysis (AES). TiNi implants were compared with otherwise identically prepared non-implanted specimens, and sputter-cleaned and reoxidized samples. Non-implanted and implanted samples had essentially the same surface topography and microstructure.

The therapeutic applications of titanium-nickel (TiNi) shape memory clamps with optimized structural characteristics for fixation of small bone fragments in 64 patients are presented. Our fixative makes compressive stabilization possible and enables a patient to start rehabilitation very soon after surgery. The supporting splint immobilization never exceeded 12 days.

A new shape memory clamp in small bone surgery.

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech

October 2012

A new internal fixative made form a titanium-nickel (TiNi) alloy having shape memory properties has been investigated and manufactured in cooperation between the Municipal Hospital Ostrava-Fifejdy, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the TU of Ostrava, Institute of Materials Engineering. The shape memory TiNi clamps with optimized parameters were designed after systematic study and development of required substructure. Experiments with animals supported the philosophy of the TiNi memory clamps application in small bone surgery.

The author analyzed and evaluated the therapeutic results of unstable pertrochanteric fractures of the femur treated by the method of a T-shaped splint in 14 patients aged 35-65 years. In 78% during treatment redislocation into the varus position occurred. The mean loss of correction was 36 degrees, despite the fact that a rest regime with a lateral spike splint lasted on average for 32.

[Rearthroscopy of the knee joint.].

Acta Chir Orthop Traumatol Cech

October 2012

The authors evaluate a group of 1409 arthroscopic operations and 69 reoperations of the knee joint in the course of six years'activities. They analyze the causes which led to the reoperation and the most frequent findings recorded during rearthroscopies. They present their views on indication and timing of reoperations based on experience they have assembled.

The authors present their five-year experience with triple osteotomy of the pelvis, as described by Steele, in a group of 31 patients and 35 operated hip joints. The mean age of the patients was 20 years, the mean follow up period 28 months (4 - 55). Prerequisites of surgery according to the authors are: 1.

The authors evaluated in a series of endoprostheses of the hip joint the X-ray documentation and peroperative revision findings in 8 patients who from a total of 16 dislocations (2.2%) were subjected to surgical revision. Conditions of a postdysplastic hip joint with previous surgery predominated (62%).

The authors evaluated the health records of men treated by open arhtrotomy because of damage of the menisci of the knee joint in the Municipal Hospital in Ostrava in 1988-1989. The group was formed by miners working underground and a second group of patients who were not miners. The stratification of the two groups was made by age, circumstances under which the first symptoms developed, the surgical macroscopic and microscopic picture.
