The increase in drone misuse by civilian apart from military applications is alarming and need to be addressed. This drone is characterized as a low altitude, slow speed, and small radar cross-section (RCS) (LSS) target and is considered difficult to be detected and classified among other biological targets, such as insects and birds existing in the same surveillance volume. Although several attempts reported the successful drone detection on radio frequency-based (RF), thermal, acoustic, video imaging, and other non-technical methods, however, there are also many limitations.

Background: Eye injuries can result in long-term disability, and healthcare providers need better tools to predict outcomes. Few prognostic models for poor visual acuity have been examined using variables usually present in very severe injuries, which creates a gap in prognosis. Therefore, a model associated with severe and less severe injuries is examined.

The impact of natural disaster on land use and/or land cover (LULC) has emerged as a global phenomenon and is perhaps the most significant regional anthropogenic and natural disturbance to the environment. Natural disasters and land use change are major concerns all over the world, and if these two concerns exist together along large rivers, then the consequences for people and the human activities may be severe. This study evaluated land use and land cover affected by flooding along Benue River in Adamawa State, Nigeria.

Previous studies about geographic patterns of species diversity of avian malaria parasites and others in the Order Haemosporida did not include the avian biodiversity hotspot Madagascar. Since there are few data available on avian malaria parasites on Madagascar, we conducted the first known large-scale molecular-based study to investigate their biodiversity. Samples (1067) from 55 bird species were examined by a PCR method amplifying nearly the whole haemosporidian cytochrome b gene (1063 bp).

The effects of plant metabolites on rumen metabolism vary greatly depending on their antimicrobial spectrum and applied doses. In this study, the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of commercial aldehydes, trans-2-hexenal (T2H), cis-3-hexenal (C3H), trans-2-nonenal (T2N), and trans-2-decenal (T2D) from green leaf volatiles, were tested on rumen bacteria. These compounds were found more effective on Gram-positive rumen bacteria than the Gram-negatives, and C3H was the most effective compound.

Background: The cortical slow (∼1 Hz) oscillation (SO), which is thought to play an active role in the consolidation of memories, is a brain rhythm characteristic of slow-wave sleep, with alternating periods of neuronal activity and silence. Although the laminar distribution of cortical activity during SO is well-studied by using linear neural probes, traditional devices have a relatively low (20-100 μm) spatial resolution along cortical layers.

New Method: In this work, we demonstrate a high-density linear silicon probe fabricated to record the SO with very high spatial resolution (∼6 μm), simultaneously from multiple cortical layers.

MICU1 encodes a Ca sensing, regulatory subunit of the mitochondrial uniporter, a selective calcium channel within the organelle's inner membrane. Ca entry into mitochondria helps to buffer cytosolic Ca transients and also activates ATP production within the organelle. Mutations in MICU1 have previously been reported in 17 children from nine families with muscle weakness, fatigue, normal lactate, and persistently elevated creatine kinase, as well as variable features that include progressive extrapyramidal signs, learning disabilities, nystagmus, and cataracts.
