Comprehensive field investigation of a large botulism outbreak, Saudi Arabia, 2024.

Background: Botulism is an uncommon and possibly lethal disease caused by botulinum neurotoxins, produced by Clostridium botulinum, Clostridium butyricum, and Clostridium baratii. Food-borne botulism typically results from consuming homemade canned, preserved, or fermented food. This paper presents the first documented occurrence of a commercially prepared food-borne botulism outbreak in Saudi Arabia.

Outbreak of carbofuran and bifenthrin poisoning in siblings after ingestion of contaminated food in KSA: Clinical management and public health implications.

Background: Pesticide poisoning remains a major global health concern contributing to an estimated 371,594 deaths annually. Both accidental and deliberate pesticide exposure, particularly in developing countries, pose challenges to public health systems. In KSA, pesticide poisoning is prevalent, and insecticides such as carbamates and organophosphates are the primary culprits.

Methods: This retrospective study reviewed medical records of paediatric and adult snakebite cases admitted to 4 regional hospitals in Saudi Arabia between January 2000 and December 2021 using search terms "snakebite", "cobra", "polyvalent antivenin", "antivenom", "compartment syndrome", and "fasciotomy".

Seizures in tramadol overdoses reported in the ToxIC registry: predisposing factors and the role of naloxone.

: Tramadol prescriptions have increased as fewer schedule II and III drugs are prescribed. There has been a concomitant increase in overdoses and adverse events recorded in the National Poison Data System. Seizure activity after tramadol overdose or therapeutic use is a well-documented adverse event.

Black widow spider bites experience from tertiary care center in Saudi Arabia.

Introduction: Black widow spiders are one of the most poisonous species to humans; there are more than 30 species of widow spiders in the globe but good thing that not all of them are dangerous. Some of these spiders produce toxic venoms, which cause broad spectrum of clinical manifestations including skin lesions, neurotoxicity, cardiac toxicity and death in some occasions. In Saudi Arabia there were no much reports of black widow spider bites apart from the case series by BUCUR and his group in ALBAHA region.
