Background: Patients with psychiatric disorders experience a reduced quality of life also due to the antipsychotic drugs assumed, that negatively affects their cognitive abilities. A healthy lifestyle, such as physical activity, can improve both functional abilities and mental health of patients with a dual diagnosis, psychiatric and cognitive. Despite this knowledge, these people are more sedentary than the general population, probably because of their apathy, core aspects of the illness.

Hormone therapy following surgery reduces the risk of breast cancer (BC) recurrence and progression of hormone-sensitive BC, especially in postmenopausal women. Despite the antitumor efficacy of hormone therapy, particularly of aromatase inhibitors, they cause long-term side effects, mainly bone density reduction. Exercise can slow the rate of bone loss, which reduces the risk of fractures from osteoporosis, and could be an integrative treatment able to mitigate the BC treatment side effects positively impacting bone health.

Single sided deafness (SSD) is characterized by significant sensorineural hearing loss, severe or profound, in only one ear. SSD adversely affects various aspects of auditory perception, including causing impairment in sound localization, difficulties with speech comprehension in noisy environments, and decreased spatial awareness, resulting in a significant decline in overall quality of life (QoL). Chronic degenerative non-communicable diseases (CDNCDs), in particular chronic kidney disease, induce gut microbiota (GM) dysbiosis, which, in turn, worsens the progression of CDNCDs and patients' quality of life. We analyzed literature studies to discuss the possible positive and beneficial impact of physical activity on GM composition and CV risk in CKD patients. Regular physical activity seems to be able to positively modulate the GM, reducing the systemic inflammation and consequently the production of uremic gut-derived toxins, which are directly correlated with the increase of cardiovascular risk.

Background: Hearing loss, occurring in 1-3/1,000 newborns in the well-babies population, is one of the most common congenital diseases, and hearing screening at birth still represents the only means for its early detection. Since 2011 the Emilia Romagna Regional Health Agency has recommended Newborn Hearing Screening for all babies at its birth points and for newborns moving to the region. The aims of this study are to analyze the results of this regional-based Newborn Hearing Screening program and to discuss the impact of the legislative endorsement on the organization.

 Bone anchored hearing solutions are a well-known option for patients with a conductive, mixed conductive-sensorineural hearing loss and those with single-sided deafness.  The aim of the present study was to evaluate the Ponto bone-anchored hearing system in terms of behavioral performance and self-reported outcomes, by comparing unaided and aided performance (softband and abutment), as well as aided performance with the sound processor on softband (preoperatively) versus abutment (postoperatively).  Fourteen adult bone-anchored candidates, with either a bilateral (  = 12) or unilateral (  = 2) conductive or mixed hearing loss, participated in the present study.

The increase in breast cancer (BC) survival has determined a growing survivor population that seems to develop several comorbidities and, specifically, treatment-induced cardiovascular disease (CVD), especially those patients treated with anthracyclines. Indeed, it is known that these compounds act through the induction of supraphysiological production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which appear to be central mediators of numerous direct and indirect cardiac adverse consequences. Evidence suggests that physical exercise (PE) practised before, during or after BC treatments could represent a viable non-pharmacological strategy as it increases heart tolerance against many cardiotoxic agents, and therefore improves several functional, subclinical, and clinical parameters.
