'Going Above and beyond': Residential Aged Care Staff Experiences of Providing Care During the Changing Context of COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic required residential aged care facilities (RACFs) to meet the high care needs of residents in the context of stringent public health measures and staffing pressures. Given the likelihood of ongoing COVID-19 waves and seasonal surges in acute respiratory infection outbreaks, this study explored RACF staff experiences in providing care while limiting COVID-19 risk. Ten focus groups were conducted across six RACFs in metropolitan and regional New South Wales, Australia.

Reliable amplification of highly repetitive or low complexity sequence DNA enabled by superhelicase-mediated isothermal amplification.

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) requires thermal cycling to melt DNA and proceed through the subsequent cycles of DNA synthesis needed for exponential amplification. Previously, we engineered a superhelicase, with enhanced processivity and speed, to replace this traditional PCR melting step with enzymatic DNA unwinding while retaining desired PCR characteristics, such as multi-kb amplicon size and applicability to cloning and gene editing outcome assessment. This isothermal amplification method is named SHARP (SSB-Helicase Assisted Rapid PCR) because single-stranded DNA binding protein (SSB) and superhelicases are added to standard PCR reagents.

Introduction: Transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals face barriers to accessing primary and gender-affirming care, especially in rural regions where a national shortage of medical providers with skills in caring for TGD people is further magnified. This care may also be impacted by individual providers' strongly held personal or faith beliefs and associated conscientious objection to care.

Purpose: This study assesses the prevalence of conscientious objection to providing care and gender-affirming hormone (GAH) therapy to TGD individuals among physicians in an Appalachian academic medical center.

High speed single pixel imaging using a microLED-on-CMOS light projector.

Achieving high frame-rate operation in single pixel imaging schemes normally demands significant compromises in the flexibility of the imaging system, requiring either complex optical setups or a hardware-limited pattern mask set. Here, we demonstrate a single pixel imaging capability with pattern frame-rates approaching 400 kfps with a recently developed microLED light projector and an otherwise simple optical setup. The microLED array has individually addressable pixels and can operate significantly faster than digital micromirror devices, allowing flexibility with regards to the pattern masks employed for imaging even at the fastest frame-rates.

Systemic immunity plays an important role in cancer immune surveillance and response to therapy, but little is known about the immune status of children with solid cancers. We performed a high-dimensional single-cell analysis of systemic immunity in 50 treatment-naive pediatric cancer patients, comparing them to age-matched healthy children. Children with cancer had a lower frequency of peripheral NK cells, which was not due to tumor sequestration, had lower surface levels of activating receptors and increased levels of the inhibitory NKG2A receptor.
