Objective: To investigate which breathing systems are available and why they are selected in dogs weighing 5-10 kg.

Study Design: Anonymous online voluntary open survey.

Methods: An online survey, designed following CHERRIES guidelines, was advertised through the American College of Veterinary Anesthesiologists - List, Association of Veterinary Anaesthesia and European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (February-March 2022).

Perioperative anaesthetic complications in healthy cats undergoing anaesthesia for neutering in first opinion practice.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to identify the incidence of common perioperative anaesthetic complications in cats undergoing anaesthesia for neutering in three UK first opinion practices.

Methods: A retrospective anaesthetic record analysis was performed on cats anaesthetised for neutering at practices 1 and 2 between 9 December 2017 and 2 February 2021 and practice 3 between 9 March 2020 and 7 January 2021. A search of the practice management system identified all cats that had undergone neutering in the selected timeframe.

Background: National population information about the surgical treatment rate for primary cancers, including breast cancer, has remained a significant data gap in Canada. This gap has implications for cancer care planning and evaluating health system performance. New linkages between the Canadian Cancer Registry and hospital discharge records were conducted by Statistics Canada in 2016.

Effect of predosing versus slow administration of propofol on the dose required for anaesthetic induction and on physiologic variables in healthy dogs.

Suspected bilateral phrenic nerve damage following a mediastinal mass removal in a 17-week-old pug.

The anesthetic management of a pediatric pug for removal of a mediastinal mass is described. During recovery from anesthesia, the dog's respiratory pattern was compatible with bilateral diaphragmatic paralysis. Incidence, complications, possible treatments of phrenic nerve injury, problems of long-term mechanical ventilation, and alternative case management are discussed.

Using personal health insurance numbers to link the Canadian Cancer Registry and the Discharge Abstract Database.

Background: Linking cancer registry and administrative data can reveal health care use patterns among cancer patients. The Canadian Cancer Registry (CCR) contains personal health insurance numbers (HINs) that facilitate linkage to hospitalization information in the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD).

Data And Methods: Valid HINs, captured in the CCR or obtained through probabilistic linkages to provincial health insurance registries, were used to deterministically link prostate, female breast, colorectal and lung cancers diagnosed from 2005 through 2008 with the DAD for fiscal years 2004/2005 to 2010/2011.

Intra-breath arterial oxygen oscillations detected by a fast oxygen sensor in an animal model of acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Background: There is considerable interest in oxygen partial pressure (Po2) monitoring in physiology, and in tracking Po2 changes dynamically when it varies rapidly. For example, arterial Po2 ([Formula: see text]) can vary within the respiratory cycle in cyclical atelectasis (CA), where [Formula: see text] is thought to increase and decrease during inspiration and expiration, respectively. A sensor that detects these [Formula: see text] oscillations could become a useful diagnostic tool of CA during acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Possible delayed respiratory depression following intrathecal injection of morphine and bupivacaine in an alpaca.

Objective: To describe general anesthesia and successful treatment of an alpaca, which developed respiratory arrest 2 hours after intrathecal injection of morphine and bupivacaine.

Case Summary: A 10-day-old female alpaca weighing 7.3 kg was presented to our hospital with a fractured right tibia.

Ischaemic distal limb necrosis and Klebsiella pneumoniae infection associated with arterial catheterisation in a cat.

This case report describes dorsal pedal arterial thrombosis and infection with Klebsiella pneumoniae subsequent to arterial catheter placement in a cat. The complication led to avascular necrosis of the metatarsal and pedal soft tissue. The catheter was placed for blood pressure monitoring during surgery for correction of a peritoneopericardial diaphragmatic hernia.

Anaesthetic complications in pigs undergoing MRI guided convection enhanced drug delivery to the brain: a case series.

Observations: A total of 13 intracerebral infusions were performed at approximately 1 month intervals in three NIH miniature pigs over the age range of 31-59 weeks. Pigs received azaperone and ketamine premedication to allow venous cannulation and propofol induction of anaesthesia. Laryngeal transplantation in minipigs: early immunological outcomes.

Despite recent tissue-engineering advances, there is no effective way of replacing all the functions of the larynx in those requiring laryngectomy. A recent clinical transplant was a success. Using quantitative immunofluorescence targeted at immunologically relevant molecules, we have studied the early (48 h and 1 week) immunological responses within larynxes transplantated between seven pairs of National Institutes of Health (NIH) minipigs fully homozygous at the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) locus.
