To report a rare case of Rosai-Dorfman-Destombes (RDD) disease in a teenage girl exhibiting mild fever, night chills, vertigo, and progressive bilateral vision and hearing loss. Case report of a 15-year-old girl who underwent extensive ophthalmic multimodal imaging and a comprehensive workup evaluation. Multiple choroid lesion masses in both eyes associated with systemic multifocal lymphadenopathy, involvement of the paranasal sinuses, and unusual intracranial manifestations well-shown by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and whole-body PET-scan.

Article Synopsis
  • - This case report details a new type of retinal vascular abnormality found in a 65-year-old woman experiencing sudden vision loss, identified during a posterior vitreous detachment investigation.
  • - The imaging revealed a focal telangiectatic venule in the perifoveal region, which persisted even after the woman's symptoms resolved.
  • - The condition is thought to be an unusual form of macular telangiectasia, with the study providing valuable insights into the mechanisms behind perifoveal retinal vascular abnormalities.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on dome-shaped macula (DSM), a condition causing visual impairment due to sub-foveal serous retinal detachment (SRD), and evaluates the effects of a new laser treatment method on affected patients.
  • It included seven patients with SRD and assessed various eye health indicators before and after treatment, with an average follow-up of about 13 months.
  • Results showed a significant reduction in central subfield thickness and improvement in visual acuity post-treatment, with no reported adverse effects, indicating the treatment's effectiveness for resolving SRD due to DSM.

Ocular toxoplasmosis is the leading cause of posterior uveitis worldwide. We conducted an observational study of 262 consecutive individuals (n = 344 eyes) with ocular toxoplasmosis who were followed over a 34-month period. Most subjects were T.

Purpose: To evaluate 24-week visual acuity and anatomic outcomes of two "pro re nata" (prn) treatment strategies (intravitreal bevacizumab [IVB] prn versus intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide [IVT] prn) in patients with persistent diabetic macular edema (pDME) after 24 weeks of prn-IVB.

Methods: One hundred eyes with center-involving DME were enrolled and treated with prn-IVB for 24 weeks; at week 24, eyes with pDME (central subfield thickness [CST] on spectral domain optical coherence tomography > 300 μm) were randomized to IVB monthly prn (group I; prn-IVB) or IVT every 3 months prn (group II; prn-IVT) and eyes in which the CST was ≤ 300 μm were assigned to continue prn-IVB (group III).

Results: Seventy-four eyes completed a 48-week study period.

Background: Intraocular metastasis is most commonly found within the choroid because of its luxurious blood supply, whereas metastasis to the retina, from a separate blood supply, is very rare. We report a rare case of synchronous metastases from lung carcinoma to the choroid of the right eye and the retina of the left eye and a complaint of low vision in the right eye.

Methods: We report a 63-year-old woman with progressive reduction of vision in her right eye for 1 year without previous history of cancer.

We present a case of a patient with resolved central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) in the left eye with persistent mild visual alterations 4 years after the resolution of the disease. Left eye exam revealed a best corrected visual acuity of 20/25 and a slight change of macular pigmentation. Optical coherence tomography revealed only minor irregularities in the topography of retinal pigment epithelium and Bruch's membrane.

We report retinal functional and structural changes of a 40-year-old man diagnosed with occult macular dystrophy. Comprehensive ophthalmological evaluation was performed, followed by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OC - Heidelberg) and image acquisition using an adaptive optics (AO) camera (RTX1, Imagine Eyes) for photoreceptor density analysis. Functional tests included full-field ERG (ERG) and multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) (Diagnosys, LLC) and microperimetry with scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO) fixation controlled (MAIA, CenterVUE).

Background: To report patients with age-related macular degeneration and atypical central retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) defects not attributable to geographic atrophy (GA) or RPE-tears with overlying preserved photoreceptor layers.

Methods: Multimodal imaging case-series evaluating the course of atypical RPE- defects in patients with AMD using Color fundus images, Optical coherence tomography (OCT), OCT-Angiography, fundus autofluorescence (FAF) and fluorescein-angiography (FA).

Results: Ten patients were identified.

The authors report the use of an adaptive optics (AO) system in an asymptomatic patient with small choroidal melanoma. A noninvasive, novel assessment that detected potential photoreceptor abnormalities in the retina overlying the choroidal lesion and adjacent retina is presented. These findings may help current clinical evaluation to monitor structural damage to the outer retina and possibly justify earlier intervention in borderline cases.

Importance: Although mostly asymptomatic, patients with choroidal nevi carry a moderate risk for malignant transformation and visual loss. A novel noninvasive imaging assessment could change the current clinical evaluation of choroidal nevi.

Observation: Three patients with a recent diagnosis of choroidal nevi underwent a novel adaptive optical assessment that detected potential photoreceptor abnormalities in the retina overlying the choroidal nevi.

Purpose: To report a case with unilateral preexisting ocular toxoplasmosis (OT) and newly occurred active retinochoroidal inflammation associated with white-centered retinal hemorrhages (Roth spots) in the healthy eye.

Design: Case report.

Methods: A 20 year-old man presented with a decrease of visual acuity in his right eye associated with 2+ cells in the anterior chamber.

Background: Post-cataract endophthalmitis has increased after introduction of clear cornea incisions (CCI). Laboratory models suggested that these incisions might not be competent at certain changes in intraocular pressure (IOP). Considering that side-port incisions (SPI) might behave similarly, the purpose of the present study was to determine the most stable side-port incision configuration.
