Background: Paediatric emergency and critical care require skilled nurses, but they often face a lack of motivation during continuing professional development. Motivation-based, engaging activities in training programmes are essential to sustain interest and improve learning outcomes in these high-stress environments.
Aim: This study aims to develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of a Paediatric Emergency Course (PEC) using the ARCS (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) Motivational Design Model to equip nurses with the knowledge and skills needed to manage paediatric patients in emergency and critical care settings.
Objective: Delayed neuropsychiatric syndrome may occur after carbon monoxide poisoning has completely healed. The literature on indicators to predict delayed neuropsychiatric syndrome in pediatric patients is limited. The aim of the study is to investigate the effectiveness of complete blood count parameters, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, platelet/lymphocyte ratio, systemic immune inflammation index, glucose/potassium ratio, venous blood gas parameters, and carboxyhemoglobin in predicting delayed neuropsychiatric syndrome in children with carbon monoxide poisoning due to coal-burning stove.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the outcomes and to determine the baseline predictors of HFNC treatment failure in children with acute respiratory distress/failure in the pediatric emergency department.
Methods: Children with respiratory distress/failure aged 1 month to 18 years who underwent HFNC therapy with the pre-established protocol were retrospectively analyzed.
Objective: To compare the clinical and laboratory findings and short-term outcomes of those children diagnosed with COVID-19 in the first and second waves of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at a suburban community hospital during a 1-year period. All children who were less than 18 years of age and confirmed with COVID-19 were included in the study population.
Objectives: We aimed to compare the demographic and clinical characteristics between pediatric cardiac arrest patients treated in Gaziantep at South-eastern Anatolian region and Izmir at Aegean Shore.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed sociodemographic characteristics, laboratory parameters, and clinical outcomes of pediatric patients that underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation due to prehospital cardiac arrest at two pediatric emergency departments in Izmir Hospital of Health Sciences University and Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Kadın Doğum ve Çocuk Hospital of Health Ministry between August 2017 and August 2018.
Results: The present study included 188 patients (112 patients from Gaziantep and 76 patients from Izmir).
Objective: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of direct and videolaryngoscopy procedures performed by pediatric residents who had limited experience of direct endotracheal intubation and had not previously used video laryngoscopes in a normal airway child manikin.
Material And Methods: The endotracheal intubations performed by pediatric residents with a direct laryngoscope and Storz C-MAC videolaryngoscope on a pediatric manikin with a normal airway were compared. Theoretical and practical training was given before the study.
Background: The most underdeveloped area in the care of critically-ill-children (CIC) is the prehospital period. Appropriate prehospital assessment and life-saving-interventions (LSI) of this population are challenging and require dedicated resources to ensure the best outcomes. We aimed to determine the characteristics and outcomes of CIC transported to the Turkish Pediatric Emergency Departments (EDs).

Acute bronchiolitis is one of the most common diseases of early childhood. There are many recent changes in the treatment of acute bronchiolitis. The aim of this study is to evaluate treatment approaches to acute bronchiolitis among clinicians and to observe compliance with clinical guidelines.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: The aims of this study were to evaluate the outcomes of patients with severe bronchiolitis who received preemptive high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) treatment according to the authors' protocol, and to identify potential baseline characteristics that might predict patients who will not benefit from HFNC.
Methods: This was a retrospective chart review of patients with severe bronchiolitis, who received preemptive HFNC treatment according to the authors' protocol and who were admitted to the pediatric emergency department between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2016.
Results: Eighty-four patients in total were enrolled over the 2 year period.

Background: Trauma is an important health problem in children, and improvement in national trauma care is only possible through the knowledge gathered from trauma registry systems. This information is not available in our country, because there is no current trauma registry system at the hospitals. Our aim is to explain the trauma registry system we have developed and present the first year's data.

Material And Methods: This was a retrospective review of medical records of pediatric patients who underwent tracheostomy in our Pediatric Intensive Care unit from 2008 to 2014 in Turkey.
Results: Sixty-three patients were included the study.
Introduction: this article examines a boy who was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa at eight years old. Pediatricians and family physicians encountered difficulties during the diagnosis and treatment stages due to the fact that early onset of the disease is rare.
Case Report: a boy aged eight years and four months presented with bradicardia, malnutrition and dehydration as far away from the preliminary diagnosis of anorexia nervosa investigated for possible organic pathologies at the pediatric ward.
Aim: The aim of the study was to examine the level of job-related burnout and the level of job satisfaction among residents of pediatrics.
Material And Methods: A total of 102 residents of pediatrics who were trained in two Ministry of Health teaching and research hospitals and in two university hospitals in Izmir were included in the study. Demographic data (age, sex), lifestyle (living with parents or not, marital status, number of children) and professional characteristics (total time spent in profession, time spent in residency, number of night shifts per month, institution type: teaching hospital/university) were collected.
Objective: To analyze the change in quality indicators due to the use of high-flow nasal cannula therapy as a non-invasive ventilation method in children with respiratory distress/failure in a non-invasive ventilation device-free pediatric intensive care unit.
Methods: Retrospective chart review of children with respiratory distress/failure admitted 1 year before (period before high-flow nasal cannula therapy) and 1 year after (period after high-flow nasal cannula therapy) the introduction of high-flow nasal cannula therapy. We compared quality indicators as rate of mechanical ventilation, total duration of mechanical ventilation, rate of re-intubation, pediatric intensive care unit length of stay, and mortality rate between these periods.
Objective: The purpose of the study is to compare the outcomes of pediatric trauma patients with motor vehicle crashes (MVCs) and motor vehicle versus pedestrian crashes (MPCs) at a level 1 pediatric trauma center in the United States and a pediatric trauma center in Turkey.
Methods: The medical records of all pediatric MVC and MPC subjects presenting to the emergency departments (EDs) of a level 3 hospital in Turkey (Izmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital [ITTRH]) and a level 1 pediatric trauma center in the United States (Children's Medical Center Dallas [CMCD]) over a 1-year period were reviewed. Data that were collected include patient demographics, prehospital report (mechanism of injury, mode of transportation), injury severity score (ISS), abbreviated injury scale score, Glasgow Coma Scale score, ED length of stay, ED interventions, ED and hospital disposition, and mortality.
The aim of the study was to determine whether the B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) plasma level predicted the severity of bronchiolitis without additional pathology in children admitted to an emergency department (ED). A total of 232 children (mean age: 7.7±1.
